Guest who went out running in the morning wrote a review complaining we didn't carry her suitcase up the stairs.
That particular day I was in the hospital for tests and ended up in bed for the rest of the day from the pain. DH has a heart condition.
Geez Louise people we do the best we can.
We've had teenagers expect us to carry their bags! WTF!

Good grief, where do they think they are, The Ritz??? Next time someone wants you to take their bags upstairs, put your hand out for a tip!

What has happened to our world, there are so many mean spirited people in it right now.

They would be in for a surprise at my place too. I don't offer. I sometimes will help, but I never offer.

Had a wedding party in once and my husband wasn't here at check-in as he took the kids biking. Three grown men in their 50s/60s stood there and watched me carry their father's oxygen machine up a flight of stairs to his room because the mother told me it needed to go up -- these were the same asses that asked me who would get the bags as they walked in and left the front door open and had popped the trunk of their Lexus and Mercedes. I didn't walk out there to get their bags, I made them carry them in. I think the oxygen machine was pay-back. They also asked for their strawberries to be "served on the deck". Hate people like this.

Oh gee !

I am sorry we are not a hotel or a motel. There for we do not employ bell hops or some one at a desk all the time.. You are a guest in our home and B&B s are very different . Warm greetings and cozy atmosphere. Please follow me to your room and get you comfortable and settled in. etc.
Geesh some people really start off on the wrong foot forward. I will not be treated like a servant Ever! Don't get me wrong I love to serve But not like that!!

I'm so sorry to hear that. I know it's heartbreaking to get a bad review, especially when someone is so unreasonable and ridiculous at that! That's when P-I-T-A becomes B-I-T-C-H

I can top this - older gentleman asked him if I could help with the bags - no we are fine, was clearly struggling a bit but wouldn't give it to me! then in the review - we had to struggle up the stairs with the bag! Yes because you wouldn't give it to me!

we always offer to help with bags. Almost always get a 'we're fine.' I think it's polite to offer. Especially since you're going that way anyway.
I also think it is polite of the guest to decline as they are perfectly healthy and capable.
And if someone left the trunk open and pointed......ummmmm.....no.

There is a famous story about a couple who don't tip the staff on a ship. Very well known for it. I don't want to be at their table....

Most of the time DH will grab a bag or two on the way to the room. Because I wasn't here to witness this I have no idea if this was a case of the guest checking in with no bag and then getting it later on or it was a small bag or the guest just looked capable of handling it on her own.
He doesn't even remember her except he asked if she was the one who went running in the morning.
He always takes larger suitcases even if he shouldn't.

I'm curious, do these people come in with their bags and have them when you greet them?
It's weird, but we just don't get that here. 99.9% of the time they leave their bags in the car and come in to check in empty handed or maybe with a pack/pillow, etc. I then take them to their room and do all the check-in stuff, then I leave. Only if it's an elderly couple will I ask if they would like help with their luggage.

Saw a review on bo oking dot com that mentioned my nephew by name saying he helped with the bags.

6 of one, half dozen of the other. Some come just themselves, not even a cc for payment and then get all shirty when I expect them to go back to the car for the money!
Most are just trying to verify THIS is the door and the stairs up which they must lug the suitcases.
You know who unloads the car first? People who show up at noon!
You know what's odd? Not a single guest has ever thanked us for carrying the bags nor have they mentioned it in a review. This is the second time someone has mentioned NOT carrying the bags on this particular review site.
The last review is what forced me to start asking everyone if they needed help. Too bad I wasn't around. DH will now ask even teenagers if they need help altho it will cause him no end of internal grief.
I tried to explain it's just being polite but he thinks "lazy bastards" because no one has ever asked him if he needs help.

Because our lodge is at 8700' and spread out over 3 floors, we keep an eye on our guests and volunteer to help them with their bags if it appears they will be struggling with them. Most are surprised and grateful. We don't make a big deal of it. Never have had an "entitled demand." It wouldn't get that far if we did!

Offered to carry all bags yesterday. Got an ok from one room. Pouring buckets and they had packed for an expedition. So, holding umbrella, hauling suitcases, balancing while trying to get door open.
Thank you? Not a peep.

You know, Proud Texan started charging for late checkouts and makes it an amenity: Just $X for a late checkout. Sign up before they're all gone!
Maybe you could put up a sign: Take advantage of our bellhop package! Get the room, the breakfast, and your luggage delivered to your room for just [regular room rate] plus $3/bag! Sign up fast, before the innkeeper tuckers out.

And then they show up at 11am so they get first dibs ...
