OK, just had an epiphany. If things are going to get done, they need to start with me! Sounds silly, but in a place where I don't speak the language fluently, know the customs, or even how to get anywhere, I am just going to have to take the bull by the horns and get going. Up until this point, I left things to dear husband, and I settled us in and took care of the kiddos, but now, my first thing, go to the electric and phone company and get service in our names! Little things, but throw in some poor Spanish and I am sure it will be fun times! Then off to immigration (for me!), school enrollment, and shopping. Already working on hiring a "coyote" to get us some license plates so that every joe smoe doesn't feel the need to pull us over. Oh my, don't forget, need a bank account to get our corporation going! I am so on this...just hope it doesn't take me all week! :)

Oh, I forgot, just learned it is high season for Mexicans starting next week! (gringos come in the winter...)
And now I am responding to my own posts....

Now you're getting into the swing of things! Definitely one person in the couple has to take the lead. Don't resent it, just accept it. Believe me, it doesn't change over time either!

You've got your work cut out for you, not only with DH, but especially in a culture of 'manana'. I live in the same type of place, but in the U.S. It takes 5 phone calls to get anyone out here or to get anything done.
Congratulations on your epiphany! You're a quick learner! It took me longer than a few weeks before I learned/accepted it.

its one of those sort of weird things when you start working for yourself - no one is going to tell you what to do!

One of those life lessons I've always believed in. If you want something to happen there's no good waiting, hoping it will happen. You've got to get off your a*** and make it happen.

Kinda like that here... NO ONE does anything in 'my' time frame! Takes lots of phone calls, and often they don't call you back- or - show up!
Takes forever to fix anything... I feel like I'm living in a foreign land. Definitely a 'don't worry-be happy' attitude around here! They're not going anywhere fast!

You may find this attitude comes in handy down the road.
We might as well be on island time here, too. Works to my advantage tho when it comes to paying bills.
Altho we are on time payers, if we miss we might get a friendly reminder a month later. Obviously not from national corporations or utilities but from locals.
