Guy shows up and the first thing out of his mouth is, I didn't know this was a B&B. (he must have thought a 6 room Marriott.)
Anyway, it's him and his three buddies on a guy's fishing weekend. They had a tuna fishing charter booked. They had booked two rooms and assumed they could get the "two doubles" option. LOL.
One room had a queen canopy bed and a day bed. The other had a queen bed only. DH pulled out a queen size feather bed topper and sheets and a blanket and someone got the floor. (I assumed they would give the floor to the guy who made the reservations.)
At breakfast they were talking about the "princess bed." I was laughing.
They ate us out of house and home, but were completely polite, cleaned up their own Dunkin' Donuts cups and other crap and left $10 tip in each room.
As they left, I said, "What will your wives say when they hear you stayed in a B&B without them?"

That is precious :) You helped them add a bit of intrigue to their fishing story that they will tell for years :)

that is cute, but so strange that they didn't know you were a B & B. what is up with that?
Was the person who made the reservation just so desperate to find a place to stay he never told his buddies because they didn't want to cancel their fishing trip??? Who knows???

We had a group organize all the accommodations for a bunch of coaches and judges. They told each person where they were staying and told us how many people were going to show up.
At 10 pm 3 guys showed up for a queen room. I met them at the door and told them 2 max. They were really put out, one of them playing the guilt card saying he would go back to the fields and sleep in his car.
I called around for them but no one was willing to discount to the rate the team had negotiated.
Next night a completely different person showed up! This woman had been given a motel room with 2 beds. Whoever organized the rooms was not on their A game!
She was very happy to not be at the 'dumpy' motel. The guys were happy they now were!
They had swapped keys at the game.
She's been back on her own, so that worked out for us.

We had 3 guys that hunted last year and I would love to have them back. They loved the extras that no other place offered. . . tractor to lift deer up so they could butcher ( they took what they didn't want (bones and guts) back to the land they hunted) and frig to keep meat in till they left. I talked to the one who made the reservation and let them have the 2 rooms in the cottage ( I put a twin in one room) . This opened up the room in the main house for our family. It worked! What is so sad is all they were looking for was a "clean" room.

Well, I did not offer a place for fish should they be caught. Nope. They did have a refrigerator in their room......hmmmmm.

.
I don't have frigs on rooms.

When you fish for tuna you have a big cooler for the tuna and ice or dry ice, they wouldn't be using your fridge. The question is of course, did they catch anything?

I asked. Only junk fish. They did run into one drunk woman at a bar who could have been caught, but they were all married. (I eves dropped at breakfast.)

They were eating like there was no tomorrow.
Separate story - Everyone was finished breakfast by around 9:15, except one couple. They got to the breakfast room at 9:50 (breakfast is 8 - 10.) He looked at the blueberry muffins, Anadama Bread, English muffins, peanut butter, jelly, cream cheese, butter, bacon, sausage, pancakes, yogurt with granola, melon, blueberries, coconut, raisins, walnuts, bananas, orange and cranberry and V-8 juice, Raisin Bran and milk......and said....."Do you have any more eggs?"
The truth is, we didn't. It was Sunday and we'd used all 20 eggs (not anticipating fisherman!)
But seriously, you wait until the last minute at a 'serve yourself buffet' and zero in on the one thing that is not available. LOL.

Great story! We have 3 guys coming to bike from CO in the fall. They booked both suites and the cottage so it's costing them some Serious $$$! But it's just the 3 of them...or so they said. The 50% deposit is in the bank and their 30 cancellation period is up in a couple of weeks so it will be interesting to see what happens.
I would be very happy to have the same happy ending you had!

My weekend report: Last minute cancellation for marathon race filled by a guy who brings his coach with him. Doesn't want to sleep on aerobed. No rooms available in a 40 mile radius, all have been booked for months. So, I discovered that it is possible to put the rollaway in my smallest room...

Looks like a dorm room! He left a large tip and half a bottle of wine.
All the athletes ate at 4am, and were out of the house at 5. He called at 5:45 to say he'd left his wet suit here. I was on my way to the lake when he called back to say they had closed the access road in preparation for the start, so "never mind". He also forgot a little personal sized floor fan and his cork screw.
