I am rather beat today. It is hotter then the hubs of h ****. I need to get down stairs to clean . I hope our lovely guest closed all the doors. Maybe I am thinking it will be cool down there. So gather all the stuff I need and go down. Open the door and it is cool YEPPIE So I start stripping the bed. Ok then started to make bed ..notice the foot of the bed is sitting at a strange slant. OH my God it is broken . the thick pine bed foot bed is shatter . they actually broke the bed right out of the frame. this bed was hand done by a crafts men in Quebec It was a large pine cannon ball. type post. Closer look buy dh found it cannot be fixed. Now what are we going to do?
First thing we close off the room. As you cannot use the bed at all. We stop ever thing and try to come up with a solution. Ok no fix so that meant we had to travel into the city Start looking for a new bed. We spent the better part of 7 hours looking. Not much out there right now. But we need a bed before the weekend. The mattress is ok so I guess we will find a frame and use it with no head board of foot board till we find some thing! These people never said a word to us about any thing going wrong or any thing broken. when they left they said how much they really enjoyed there stay. .It was so peaceful.

Sorry for you. But yes, most do not mention that they broke something. In fact, I've never had anybody admit to it.
But I cannot imagine broken wood that cannot be repaired. I'll bet a woodworker could fix it.

That is horrible :( I am so sorry. Did the hardware that holds the rails or the frame come out of the post? Is it shattered/splintered, or? I can't believe it can't be fixed either.
Can you show us a picture?

The post had hardware that fit inside. Then the bed railing hooked on to the hardware inside the post. When they broke it they pulled the metal piece out of the post that the railing hooked into. They shatter the post completely at where the railing fits into the bed post at the foot board. It could be glued but the chances of it breaking again are very high. . The bed is some 4o plus years old. the new bed railing fit into the foot board and then also screws into the foot base. . So it is held together both ways. But ours railings just hooked into the hard ware at the bottom post. We are in a small town if we were in the big city finding some one would be easier. But we don't have the time to do the research . As we have guest arriving on Friday. The plan right now is replace the head board with what ever till we can find one that will look great.
If we can't then we will buy a King bed to replace the queen. It is kind of damed if I do or dammed if I don't.
You see when we were traveling in the USA for 6 months we purchased all new bedding for the queen bed all sheets four of them then all the comfort , bed skirt, pillows decorating to match the set So now I have to decide . on new every thing or visit the new

we had this with a 4 poster bed - yet another booking of my mothers (they are jinxed) idiots decided to swing from it while drunk at 3am ie like monkeys
Our situation was even worse as has people coming in someday! handyman managed to cobble it together till we could get a replacement

Gorilla glue might be able to do it. Read the instructions (most don't) because you need to wet down things. The glue expands into the material for a stronger bond.

I am so sorry to hear this. People can be so inconsiderate. They were probably aftaid of how much you would charge for the broken bed. One wonders sometimes HOW the HECK they manage to break what they do.
I have a queen rice bed in the Gillum Room. First guest - shakedown ctuise friend. She is a wide-load (more than me even) and in the process of unching up onto the bed to put on her shoes (bed is high), pushed the box speing sideways letting the slats escape the railing. She came down to breakfast telling me, "I think I broke your bed." DH was in good shape back then and he spent the day with wire and toggle bolts so that would never happen again. (It has held more weight since then than any bed should be expected to hold!) 7 years later she returned, sat on the END of a bench at the foot of the bed which proceeded to tip over with her falling into the corner post of the bed. She was not hurt, the wire held, but there is about 1/4 inch of unstained wood showing on the foot board.
Same bed. Men liked to lean on the bedpost as I gave the spiel. It got wobbly, then more wobbly, and on the 3rd visit (yes, same friend) ny friend managed to either lean or fall into it and the post snapped off. DH drilled it out and used a fowel rod to hold it on. THAT worked out nicely in the end. A grade school friend came to visit and informed me that post was in the way when watching TV from the bed. He showed me how he solved it (and I now tell guests) - you just lift it up and put the post in the corner. (However, guests have put it some interesting places - have had the bedpost hunt more times than I like).

Wow, sorry to hear that. We've had a few broken chairs here that DH fixed with Gorilla Glue.

Is it possible to get just a frame and continue to use the head board? The new frame would have legs to stand up on its own. Then you attach the head board however you want.
It's a real pain when guests don't mention something so incredibly obvious.

I'm sure you have thought about all possible fixes. I'm so sorry this has happened :(

Am I the only one that thinks the guest should pay for this? This type of damage didn't occur from rowdy bed play. The only scenario that I can see forcing this kind of damage is the idiot stepping on the side rail to get in or out of bed. Or kicking the post while in bed. Or something just ridiculously stupid.

You can't build a splint or something? Of course it won't look as good, but is it worth it to 'patch' it?

Yes we have thought and thought. I think we are just going to find a head board for now and find bed railings that will do a king or a queen size bed . I am going to find a consignment shop or a second hand shop to see if we can find a head board that we can screw on the new bed railings to. We decided in the wee hours of the night to do a quick fix. Then that will give us some time to see if we can find a craftsmen that will !? be able to fix our old bed. Says me with my fingers crossed. WE will just bid some time for now. Just incase you think these people were large . No they we not fat or very tall. One was a correctional officers in a jail.
I was thinking maybe it was caused by holding on to the head board and move very fast that would of moved the whole bed and applied more force to the frame and could of possibility snapped the railing out of the post. hence why it shattered. ???? I don't know one can only imagine ...at this point.

I think the metal piece in the post has moved. So at this point I am concerned enough to not tamper with it till some one can really look at this to see what all the damage is for sure. Just now we see shattered wood on the bed post.

Yes it is possible to use the head board But we would have to drill some big holes into the posts . . We were thinking maybe just hold off for a bit . Not damage the head board for now to see if we can find a wood worker to be able to look at this. Right now is our busy silly time and we have not got the time to look much longer. Friday a new set of guests arrive . We have booked the room off till we come up with new bed railings and find an old head board. then when the season is over we can take the time to travel to Vancouver being a big city surely ,we will be able to find some one Yes we saw the new frames with sturdy legs so I think this morning after the rush we will drive to the next town and buy a new frame and a old head board or a new head board depending what the cost is. For now I am wacked and just defeated. I guess it might be from the rush of shock and anger yesterday. But today anew day and maybe we might be luck and all will fall into place.

So Sorry, Flower. No time is a good time for this but especially during your busy period. Good Luck!

Sometimes an old door can be painted up to become a decent headboard in a pinch. Just mount it on a metal frame or attach it to the wall.

Try doing a Goo search for woodworkers in your area. You might be able to find someone who knows what to do that is in your area - woodcarver, furniture makers, custom woodshop......

Well yesterday we did it. We solved the problem . We bought a bed frame to use that is queen and King size. Also we purchased a king bed. But it cannot be delivered for 2 weeks.
Also we bought a queen size head board at a steal of a deal for $40.00 It is a beaut. So that will be used as an interim. They also had the king head board there to at a steal of a deal. To make a long story short .
The lady that sold us the bed said come with me I want to show you some thing. So we followed her. There they had both head boards on a fab steal as they had lost the bed rails and foot board to the set. She offered it to us for $40.00 queen and the king for $85.00 the original cost of the head board were over $ 600.00 each .
That just gives you an idea how much of a mark up furniture has. So now today we will take down the bed from the suite and put it away till we can find the time to fix it says me hopefully. And installed the new railings along with the new Queen head board. Then we can wait the 2 weeks till the king bed comes in and install it. We are hoping it will come in before hubby has his surgery.
Now we will be back in business . Yepppieee no more loss of income. The saleslady saved us so much money and time. We also looked and purchased bedding 2 sets of sheets for now and a cover and shames to start with and an encasement for all the mattress for the King. Finding king sheets right now is hard.
But not to worry as we have more then enough queen sheet to last a life time. For the next 2 weeks will be working with the Queen bed. We took down the old head board and railing and will find a space to store them till we find a person to fix it. I will never allow any other stranger in this bed ever! I will keep my fingers crossed that we will find just the right person to fix our beloved bed. It will be a good as new.!!
To end this part of the story . I want to just say Heck you guys and gals Thank You so much!!!! there are no words I can say that would be able to express how much I could thank you from the bottom of my heart. It went from this
