I'm kindof scared to ask this for fear you'll all think I'm a freak, but surely someone else does this. Do any of y'all get on that well known social media site and look up your guests before they arrive?

No, haven't done that, but with the first few I looked up their home address on Google Street View just to see what kind of house/neighborhood they lived in. I got over that after a few weeks. o

Nope I never bothered with it. I really didn't care or want to know. besides I never had time.

Absolutely not. I don't want to know anything about them until they arrive.
Last month I misspelled a guest's name and I did a search on her to get the correct spelling and I found out wonderful things but could never broach the topic because how would I know that???

On a couple of rare occasions I have done a search on a guest when there were two or more red flags that it might not be legitimate. I only look to try and confirm they are a person. Other than that, I would rather not know anything about our guests before arrival. It gives me a unbiased first impression and keeps me from falling into a judgmental state of mind. Guests will share with me what they want and the rest is none of my business.

Only if they have booked by phone and I get a weird feeling.
I have looked them up afterwards, but only after they WERE weird when they were here. Like most others have stated, I don't want to get a preconceived idea of who they are.

I remember that a few years ago we discussed a hotel that gets photos of the couple's children off their FB page and has them framed and waiting in the room when the guest arrives.
We pretty much all agreed that would come across as very creepy!
But stuff like that is possible in this age. It's a first step toward becoming one worldwide interconnected community with no individuality, like the Borg in Star Trek.

Well, alrighty then. I guess I'm a freak. LOL. I've done it a few times, as BD said, when I feel weird about a booking I've received.

Come to think of it, I did once go look look up someone because they were famous.

I've done that before when trying to fix an address that was entered incorrectly. Then zoomed in to see their house.

I've done this a few times after they have left. Like if they did a TA review and after matching them up in the reservation book I still could not remember them. Like my 3 star TA lady & her boy toy.

same. When I get a phone rez, I sometimes don't get the street name correct. G maps helps straighten me out.

I have done a reverse phone look-up to get the correct street spelling but not a Goo Search. Never thought of it.
