I need more than a week off, tho. Not sure how long it would take at this point.
This seems to be a sort of every few years thing with me. No ambition. Tough when you own your own biz!

For me it seems to be all or none. There are days when every little thing feels like a monumental task and I don't want to do ANYTHING! Other days it feels like no work at all. I think a lot depends on the weather too. Heat and humidity completely drain me of energy.

Boy, is that ever me! We have another couple of weeks of full house, no break and then...guess what...I have decided that it really is time to get some serious time off. Sooooo, I have blocked out all remaining unbooked dates, except Columbus Day weekend and a big festival weekend that follows in mid-October. And we are only offering a guest house rate for the cottage...no breakfast or housekeeping. Blocking out the calendar was much easier than I thought it would be. Closed the place to visitors from late-October through March, and maybe even April. This will be the first time in 25 years that we are officially closed for months at a time and it feels great!
Once I do the year-end tally and figure out how much we really need to be able to sustain this place I will set a new calendar for 2015. We will officially be semi-retired!!!! Thinking of only offering accommodations to returning guests and eventually just doing the cottage as a guest house during the summer. But for now, we will continue to do what we do well and are known for...just less of it. Yipeeeeeee!

.
Thanks....it really is exciting.
It's a new phase of life...full of uncertainties and opportunities at the same time. For years we have been keeping our fingers crossed that my mom (93) will not have a health crisis in May, June, July, August, September or October when we always have guests. So far, so good for 2014. But every time the phone rings my heart jumps. We are REALLY looking forward to the next phase in our lives where we can relax a bit....and get a good nights sleep with an uncluttered mind. Then, when the next crisis comes we can just deal with it without the added burden of guests.
