I found this article about how often to wash things really interesting. Keeping in mind, this is for personal items and homes ... not B&B's.
I washed my bed pillows and they are all mis-shapen now. I may have to donate them and get new ones as I can't get them back into rectangles. I've got odd lumps in corners or triangular things going on or maybe trapesoids. I can't imagine what I'd do if I washed and made a mashup of the b&b pillows - we had eight guest rooms with four pillows in most rooms, more in the king rooms and the rooms with more than one bed. Any suggestions of how to get the pillows back into shape or are they a lost cause?

If they've already lumped up it's a lost cause. Most of my pillows wash up well, some don't. Did you use old sneakers or tennis balls in the dryer? That helps them keep their shape.

.... they never had a chance.
ah, well. now i know better.
the homeless shelter won't take them but the animal shelter will.

Pillows need to be washed in a large machine and left to soak in the soap. The problem is unless you are using pillow protectors, they get people's oil in them. When drying them, you need tennis balls or preferably dryer balls. (Not the hard ones, the rubber ones, like I linked. I keep 4 in my dryer at almost all times, since they actually push up fibres.

That's why I replace mine so often. they just lump up. Best thing to extend the really expensive ones or down that you cannot wash - extra pillow protectors. You can get them in different sizes and can use more then one. Helps a lot with extending the life!
