Had notification from Visi tscotland that after our last quality assurance visit they are upgrading us from 4 star to 4 star gold. Absolutely delighted as we've been aiming for this for several years. They've also giving us a "Tast eth ebest" award for our use of local, scottish and home grown produce.
This has come in our tenth year and we've also reached 500 recommendations on ta.
I was hoping this would all come together as it seems like a great marketing opportunity, but now it has I'm not sure what to do with it. Certainly a press release and a website change seems appropriate but any other ideas what I should be doing would be appreciated??

Congratulations!!!!
Get some of the edible gold star and sprinkle a few around the plate or on the fruit. Definitely post Gold tars on your web site.If you snail mail anything to guests have gold stars affixed to the letter. Use gold star stickers anywhere appropriate - at least for a few months.

That's outstanding! Congratulations! Do you email newsletters? Blog? Make it part of your standard email signature! Tattoo it on your chest! :)

That is just fab!!! Long hard work as paid off. Congratulations. Way to go!!!
Yes use gold stars to reinforce, what you have achieved .Tell people on your web site what it means by having this up grade.

Good for you!
Yes, press release. Can you get your local paper to come out for photos and a story? Yes, get that on your website with whatever badge they give you.

I was sitting here reading all your lovely comments and it just came to me. I need an angle...
How about "The Common Wealth Games may be over, but there's one more gold in the L*** **** area.....blah blah blah"

Congrats! I wish I could make it up to 4. At the moment, I would just be happy shooting a rude guest once a month or so.

BEAUTIFUL!!! You are good!!!

Highlands, I'm guessing you're in a fairly populated area so this advice may be utterly useless. With that disclaimer:
In our rural area, local publications will often print press releases word for word. Include good photos so your words will actually be read. The sort of photos the reader will picture themselves in. The catch is the article has to have the 'what's in it for me' hook for the editors and readers. Possible topics would be your unique approach to locally sourced foods and why it has been successful for you (and could be for others). A brief interview with the vis itS lnd authority rep as to why their program is successful in boosting local economies...you get the idea. Don't overlook a possible interview segment on your area broadcast medium. Harried overworked producers may just welcome your interview on one of their shows. Put the 'hook' in your subject line.
A hearty congratulations. My highest aspiration is a certificate of excellence by that ad visor group. I think one needs over 200 reviews for that. We're in our seventh year and are up to 52. The most in the area, but alas, nowhere near enough!

Congratulations!
I liked the idea of telling people a little bit about the difference on your website and maybe a little note about how your new rating finally caught up with what your 500 reviews already confirmed.
"We've been receiving gold stars from our guests from the day we opened our doors. Now Vis Sco is ringing in our 10th anniversary with an official gold star of its own. Better yet, they've recognized our local centric menu with a TTB designation. ETC ETC"
Just havin' some fun. Whatever you come up with will be great.

Gold in them thar hills! do VS not do a Breakfast Award? cos you would have got that as well - which I personally feel is easier for people to understand ie people understand breakfast award means amazing breakfast
