Live and learn

Processing cc last night and the machine stopped completely mid transaction. (Yeah, yeah, i know get square, moving on...)
The guest's cell phone beeped letting him know the transaction went thru. Like I'm supposed to believe that? What a terrific scam that would be!
Called the processor. They had me do a bunch of stuff and the poor tech kept saying, "I don't know why that didn't work."
Cut to the chase... machine out of paper. The old machine didn't care. Apparently this one won't do anything if there's no paper.
There was a little bit left on the roll, so it printed out the top of the receipt and then stopped.
Now we know.

I hate that. It's like inkjet printers that have black, cyan, magenta, and yellow ink modules. If just one of the color ink modules is empty, you can't even print a black and white document. The thing just shuts down until you feed it more magenta.
Of course now I'm flashing back to typewriter ribbons. When they reached the end, they reversed direction and let you keep typing and typing for months. I wouldn't get a new ribbon until the print got too dim to see. The good old days.

Threw out the terminal last week. Not worth even donating it now. So happy with, you know, that other service. Wonder it the Ama zon will do chip and pin. Saw my first chip and pin card today.

I think, other than cards from the USA that the only card without that I have seen in the last year, was a card from the PRC.
