HARO - Help a Reporter Out
If you have not heard of HARO here is the scoop - put in what you are interested in providing then get daily emails from reporters looking for experts or people in that field. Example, travel may be airlines experiences, and unique hotels that cater to older singles, etc. This is a free service for us.
Here is one I saw today that you may be interested in, but you have to register to reply and to submit info to these, they are usually time constrained as well (this one has a two day reply date):
Travel
1) Summary: Affordable Inn-to-Inn Experiences
Name: Jamie Moore Smarter Travel
Category: Travel
Email: [email protected]
Media Outlet: Smarter Travel
Deadline: 12:00 PM PST - 18 August
Query:
For this roundup story we are looking for affordable inn-to-inn
experiences both throughout North America and around the world.
They're active adventures that give travelers the chance to
hike, bike, kayak, snowshoe, etc. from one inn to the next. In
your pitch please briefly describe the unique aspects of both
the experience and the inns (must be at least 4 stars on Trip
Advisor). The story will run in early September, so please
mention anything appropriate for fall or early winter. Include
costs and dates. Links are great. No attachments, please.
JB - -Have your photos in high resolution and at your fingertips, and make sure when you reply that you mention credit is given to your inn if they use any of your images, or if they quote you. Never forget, you ARE the expert in your field. Don't sell yourself short!

FYI here is the HARO I got today (you won't always know who the article is for (magazine/newspaper travel section/website/blog/book, and at times it may be a freelancer):
Travel
1) Affordable Inn-to-Inn Experiences (Smarter Travel)
2) Looking for people who've used certain agritourism apps (Central Florida Agri-Leader)
3) Real Cowboy Getaways (Peter Greenberg Worldwide - Online)

Thanks Joey for posting this. HARO is just what it says, and its a great resource for the quoter and the quoted!

I signed up for this long ago. So far the only response I have gotten to a pitch has bee to offer a listing on their web ite or something like that. It sounded like it was going to be for a fee so I passed. Too often they are looking for "luxury" whatever. I signed up for another HARO-type site a long time ago - and it seemed ALL were looking for freebies. I do and will keep trying though.

Deadline: 7:00 PM EST - 21 August
Query:
Top travel writer and correspondent Julie Loffredi
(www.julielo.com) is working on a roundup of top hotels this
foliage season (example: offer picturesque views/foliage
tours/promotion packages around leaf peeping season or located
in close proximity to best areas for leaf peeping)
JB - -Not really sure what Gillum is talking about. I have never received a pitch from anyone, and none has ever asked for freebies or even a stay, they have asked for photos and a quote or content.
I get these emails and respond to any that suit me. I had a response from one yesterday who is keeping our info when they want to write about music in our area, or fall leaves.

I have MADE pitches in the past - lots of them and only relevant. I have had only a couple responses and none for an article. I would love to be asked for photos or content!!
It was with the previous version - and I do not remember what it was called back then - that I would get responses to my pitch and it was usually looking for a freebie. I did give a few but never saw an article. this was when I was a newbie trying to drum up heads in beds, before the Internet caught on.

Just walked in and saw a HARO that a couple of you may want to see, I thought of TIPSY on this one especially as I know she caters her items per the person:

Query:
I'm looking for a 'victim' of fake hotel reviews i.e someone who
has stayed at a hotel that was unfairly represented by the
reviews written about it online. If you could state which review
site you were misled by, that would be fantastic. Any comment
you have on this subject would be greatly appreciated -
particularly for locations in Europe (Spain, Italy, Greece,
Egypt etc)
