PLEASE NOTE - THIS ORIGINAL POST WAS FROM AUGUST 2014 AND I BOUGHT A MOP BACK THEN.
If you want to comment now in May 2015 it might help someone else, but I'm all set. Not sure how it got resurrected ....
the floors need serious help - all the floors, bathroom, kitchen and hardwood throughout - and i need serious help cleaning them. suffice it to say, there are elderly pets and elderly folk here and we have major cleaning challenges. daily - sometimes a few times each day. the few rooms with carpet are another story altogether and i don't want a combined floor and carpet cleaner.
does anyone use a steam and spray mop? i've been looking at the shark and the bissell
i'm willing to pay what's necessary if it's going to work. seeing mixed reviews online.
thanks

I have the Oreck steamer and love it.. We use it on the hardwood floors and tile..

I use a flat mop-- with one of those Velcro stick on pads. The pad has been damped and rung out with warm water. But every so often when floor gets dull from bare feet, etc, It is the old fashioned way-- on my hands and knees but with a good microfiber cloth rung out and lots of pressure always going with the grain of the wood I am always amazed at the dirt in the cloth, even after I have used the flat pad.. Sure makes a difference and the shine comes back.. I was told by the installers when they put it in 6 years ago to never use any kind of soap---just warm water.

My wood floor installers told me to use Bona, and to never use water. But I don't know if they have stock in Bona or not! I do know that the Bona does a great job of cleaning the floors and leaving them shiny.

We use the Rubbher Made Reveal. Works well and we toss the pads in the wash.

I used a steamer on my floors great job I used it on my rugs it was just ok, I do not have hard wood floors

Yes. I used steam bath and I usually did that on the hardwood floors and tile.

I Swiffer my wood floors but have to use a steam cleaner about every 8 months or so, as the chemicals in Swiffer seem to build up and make the floors dull or sticky.........Carpets are area rugs.......

I think the most important thing, is to ensure hardwood is kept properly varnished. It seems easier to clean and protects the wood better than something that hasn't seen a new treatment in 15-20 years. And it looks better.

I just bought the $50 version of the shark steam mop. I was surprised how much elbow grease I had to use to push it, but it did get the floor pretty clean. I'm using it on the vinyl kitchen floor, not wood. The more expensive model might be easier to use.

on bare floors, we use hands and knees, but only because around the edges, no matter which you use, you always have to clean by hand. So, I might as well do the whole floor that way.
I have a Bissell steam cleaner which I absolutely love. I use it very often and regularly.
But be advised that you need to use the Bissell cleaning fluids. Anything else will not work. I have had someone borrow my machine, they used bargain stuff and clogged it up to the point where I wanted to cry, and their carpets did not come clean.

That's what they told my son to use on his floors. Does a great job on the floors!

Next door is pressure washing before 9am on memorial day, nice. So much for peace and quiet for our guests. Same dude who owns a local restaurant and has never ever said thank you for sending customers to him.
It is so loud right now, I feel like screaming.

Thank you.
9:46am and it is still ravaging on our there. With the windows closed it is a loud grinding hum. I was checking out guests and we couldn't even stand on the porch and talk, and these are very importance folks to me, regulars, and we had some personal farewells and chatting to do!

So, why didn't you send someone out there to ask him nicely to wait until 11AM. He may realize at that point that maybe it might have a direct connection with his income. Especially if you tell guests that your neighbour, who owns XYZ restaurant has decided to powerwash this morning and that you asked kindly...

Not likely.
11am and still going.
they don't care.
his dogs were barking at our guests yesterday just walking around our porch. everyone loves this couple, they are upstanding very popular in this community, so I won't bother. Have lived there since it was flipped when the orig owners died, buried at the back now. People actually say to me "oh YOU live next door to so and so aren't you lucky!" Lucky? I have no idea to even answer that statement.
