Didn't mean to conduct an experiment, but I did. Here are the results -
Housekeeper is gone but I didn't take the tip cards away as I need to print up the off season cards.
Card was missing from one room, guest must have taken it. That room was about 75% occupied during the past 2 weeks.
Zero tips left in that room for 2 weeks. Other rooms netted $78 in 2 weeks.
Tip notes make a difference.
Off season notes in place now. Tips will go to zero in all rooms.

What did your in season notes say? if you care to share..

Welcome to our place
We hope you have a wonderful time in our state.
Rooms are cleaned between 9 am and noon only. Your housekeeper, Madeleine, takes great pride in her work. Tips are greatly appreciated but not expected.
Let us know if we can help in any way.
Thank you! Your innkeepers.

Off season note skips the housekeeper's name and the part about the tips.
.
Print the note on an envelope, even without the tips part. A few souls will leave you a few coins. You do the work, let them appreciate it by making your day and giving you a smile. Even if it's just a few coins.

Ok, so you've got loonies and toonies. Those make for nice coin leavings. I've been finding 57 cents. 32 cents. That's annoying. Like I need someone's spare change.
So, rather not have anything tippish in the rooms now. It'll keep my bp low that way.

Never thought to say that we only clean up till noon. I'll run that past himself. A great way to manage your day!

It's to encourage guests to shake a leg. Some don't leave until 1-2 pm. Makes for a very long day as either one of us has to clean those rooms alone or everything waits for the guest to leave.
One reason I selected the longest wait time is waiting for checkout, or just for guests to leave for the day.

Yes, include room cleaning times so they know. I remember having guests saying to me at 2 or 4 or whenever 'you can freshen my room now' ... well, I could've if I'd had the time but actually no ... not while I'm checking folks in. That part of my day was over. They knew I was alone or if I had a helper and really didn't understand that we did have our own schedule.

grrr!! I hate when they take the envelopes! That's SO annoying! If you don't want to leave a tip, fine. But don't try to dissuade your guilt by taking my envelope.

I have stayed at multiple B&B's that has no scrap or scratch - however you wish to call it - paper. If they did have it, it was not in a visible place. Not saying this is the case with anyone here, but if there is no paper to write on I also would be using a tip envelope.

Could be they can't find it in the drawer because that same room lost another card.
I got monogrammed note paper for the rooms. Doesn't mean it's easy to find. I should check that out when the guests leave. Maybe someone took the note pad last week and I missed it.

Yes they do take it! They will.

I got small personalized scratch pads from Vista, separated them into little pads of about 6 sheets, and always leave a pad on top of the desk with a personalized ink pen. I HOPE they take them, because they are a walking advertisement and reminder of my place, and with only 6 sheets out at a time, the cost to me is minimal.
