Most of us here are not high end luxury inns (although a few are). So have you ever considered a "pay per turn down" service at your inn?
Hotels go luxe with turndown gifts, from fruit pies to cognac

Guests at the Caldwell House Bed and Breakfast (Salisbury Mills, N.Y.) receive homemade miniature fruit pies with locally sourced fillings. "Anyone ...

I don't like turn down service when I travel. So for personal preference, I wouldn't want to do it.
We do put out nice candies. I wanted to put cognac in every room, but liquor laws prevented it. sigh.

The question was PAY FOR IT. So you obviousely KNOW it is coming and expect it.
That was the question, would you pay for it?

real candles? id be VERY wary of that
I don't want anyone in my room - its my space - don't even want chamber maiding really - if I catch them say just clean cups and fill the tea tray, don't bother with anything else.

candy, not candle. We only use fake candles, but good mint chocolates are always out.

Value added- No one will pay for it, but has a value that people add into their final assessment.
ADD VALUE ADD VALUE ADD VALUE oops- the keys got stuck.

I ask my guests if they need maid service - it is up to them if I enter the room (I tell them after they say everything is OK, this way they do not have to hide their sex toys (ONLY if it is a couple we have established a rapport with)).. I do not like someone coming in to the room so I do not do it to my guests. It is also a blessing to my knees.
No, I would not pay extra for "turn down service". My extra value is the "care packages" of muffins and breads.

No, I would not pay for it. We have had turndown once, when we stayed as guests at a high end luxury Caribbean Resort. It was an all inclusive deal and the turndown was part of the amenities. But I must say, it was lovely to have the bathroom refreshed while we were at dinner, to come "home" to softly lit room, fresh towels and a turned down bed.

No, I wouldn't pay for it. The room should be at the correct price point to cover the work/amenities associated with turndown service.
Paying for everything a la carte isn't a good idea imvvho when it comes to lodging...

OOO OOOO OOOOO Pick me. Kenneth- you have a thought?
I agree with Samster. Creating your unique price point and adding value to ensure it exceeds your guests' expectations is a recipe for success.

I'm with you BH, there's nothing more annoying when you're slobbing out in your room in the evening watching TV after a big meal and someone wanting to come in and fiddle with the bed.

I'm all in favour of that, but I don't think this does add value.

In our case, I agree.
While I am the add value guy these days, I do think that value is something that must be determined for a given property so that those values make sense for what they offer and what they do. I do think it is an added value for some places, but we do not offer turn down service as an added value. In our situation, it doesn't fit our brand as an inn the way it would for others.
