Another witty installment of the confessing Bob and Emily: "We Think You’re Stupid and Other Confessions of a B&B Owner"
JB: No this is not the same article as before from Sept 8, 2014 here, or the next installment from Sept 22, 2014 here, and another from Sept 29, 2014 here.
I have no doubt in my mind the author is getting the fodder from this forum, as I said before. Be careful what you say innkeepers, you are being closed monitored. This is not a closed forum, lest ye forget.
This author has quite a following as I just glanced and saw one article had 1010 comments, that is massive.

Can't say as I blame the guests. We are amusing as all heck!
Guests! Join the conversation!

It would be a shame to have to make the forum by invitation only. We could still have our forum, but aspirings would have a hard time getting info they need, and new members would be less likely to find us, and join.

I read some of the 1010 comments and most of the commenters totally agreed with the blogger. I understand your point about lurkers (Hi, y'all!) but in this case, it was almost a learning experience.
The internet is a scary/fun/interesting/did I already say scary? place!

I agree.
You know it is not just the author (if this is where they get their info) who finds the incessant complaining bad here. Many of the regulars are not that fond of the griping either. Sure if you have a major issue like someone vomiting all over the room, or something. Please you need to vent, you need to have a group-hug from your innmates. We are here for you, by all means.

But, if you gripe and complain about every little thing, then it is putting us all in a bad light. I want to say that here and now. I don't want any of us diving for cover. But perhaps examining what we say in light of this. It couldn't hurt.

A lot of those 42 'guests' are signed in members who have not updated in a few hours. As soon as they log off or refresh they'll show up as users. They're not necessarily lurkers.

Probably the best thing to consider is would you post the same thing on Facebook under your inn name. As we've seen some innkeepers do.
Other days I just need a place to gripe about stupid stuff. ;-)

Honestly, I think that's just an idiot writing stuff. Frankly, never found left underwear, etc. It's not even journalism anymore, it's click bait. The lowest of the low. Journalism would involve real sources, not the Newharts.

From reading quality of these articles, I suspect the writer is named Beavis.

Next Article...
We Think You’re Stupid and Other Confessions of a Yahoo Journalist
We think you will accept anything that we write as being the truth, even though we don't really have any sources because we have made up the source and are calling them by the character names of Newhart.
We think you will accept generalizations about all innkeepers because you are stupid.
We think you are so stupid that we write this articles as click-bait so that you will give us traffic so we can show more advertisements. It's why we write the articles in the first place.
We write for the ads because otherwise no one even notices Yahoo anymore. We've been beaten by Google and Bing and we don't want to lose our jobs. Maybe AOL will want us now?
Anyone else want to add?

Hi to everyone,
I have not introduced myself yet, as I am an "Aspiring" Inn person, and have been reading posts for awhile trying to learn all I can. Please don't think that those of us who have not posted yet are not here for the right reasons. I haven't said anything because not having an Inn yet, I don't have many tales to tell. I have learned a lot from all of you and would be sad if this became a closed forum. I come here every day to see what I can learn today. Thank you!

Welcome. Tales are not necessary for speaking up. Just chat - that is what we do a lot of in case you have not noticed. All voices are welcome - except the snarky ones.

I have been on the forum 5 years. I can't recall anything said that would cast our industry in a bad light or suggest anything less than forum members' sincere hospitality offered to genuine guests. Our tales are human stories. Yes, there are guests that drive us nuts on occasion, yes there are guests that are short on common sense or short on basic manners. We try to deal with them, but we are more peers than servants (no matter how early we rise to cook their breakfast or how hard we work to keep everything clean), so if someone is out of line, we will call it.

Spot on. Just opened my browser and saw this thread and I'm not listed online.
But my two cents: not everything on the internet is the gospel truth for ANYTHING. Just because someone has published something on line, be it on a blog, web page or even a comment, should be always taken with a grain of salt. Anyone with a brain in their head can think for themselves (hopefully) and not believe that everything is the gospel truth. Even digital editions of newspapers retract their stories from time to time because of erroneous information. And I agree, an innkeeper has to genuinely love people and be a hard worker because, I don't know about you, but I don't see me becoming wealthy or selling any shares in my place any time soon!

what makes me cross is people in the comments who say "well id never stay in a B&B now" well if you read a tell all from a hotel member of staff would you say the same? why are we all tarred with the same brush?
I have my grumpy moments like this evening where I have 2 guests who feel last check in does not apply to them and will be arriving after midnight - but in that case I feel Im justified!

Hear Hear!
And I think the point is we deal with these problems, we treat the guests with respect, we do our best to accommodate them and make their stay special despite all.
They do drive us nuts at time, but we almost never let them know that, we deal with it by coming to this forum.
And while 50% of this forum may be us moaning, lets not forget that the other 50% is us discussing ideas and gaining experiences from other innkeeps to help make our places the absolute best we can for our guests!!!

Absolutely.
No doubt about it.
But you are smarter than the average bear 2cat_lady. Many people DO believe everything what they read. Go to the comments and read them and see for yourself if you think they are smarter than that.
But that is the current state of affairs, unfortunately. 90% of all things written online about bed and breakfasts is negative.
