any great tips?
these have been hanging in the house, uncleaned, for ages. some are not bad - but they are all in desperate need of cleaning. especially the bigger blinds - venetian blinds - some that i can't get out of the frames to soak in the tub which was my mom's method. we picked up a few gadgets that would help clean them. the brushes seem like they'd clean if the dirt wasn't greasy or something ... if i could put some kind of solution on the blinds. maybe pine sol or alcohol?
yuck, i know ... sounds nasty. and my elderly relative telling me they are fine and to 'leave them alone'.

I am assuming these are metal blinds? When I bought this house, it had sat vacant for several years without the AC running at a comfortable temperature in this hot & humid climate. The blinds were completely gross, gummy, nasty and had a film that could not be removed without some force, and it's impossible to apply force to blinds when they're hanging. So I took them all down (hello - 40 windows!), hung them on two hooks that I put on the fence, mixed up soapy water (I used Dawn), rubbed on them with a soft car washing mitt thing, then took the pressure washer to them. Not severe, high force, and standing a bit away. It worked well for me.

If they are metal or plastic. I used blue dawn and vinegar . Straight vinegar is great but the smell is some thing else. Also one of my favorite is denatureral SP ? alcohol or we call it wood alcohol . It cleaned my plastic fan blades that were full of cooking grease, like lickly split! Found it at Lowes.

It's a pain if you can't get them down. I cleaned my son's awful trailer cabinets (plastic) with ammonia. Straight from the bottle. You'd have to put down plastic sheets if you want to protect the floors. Smells horrible, but it stripped the cigarette gunk right off.
