I really liked the alarm clocks Silverspoon mentioned she put in the rooms this summer. The ones with the 2 outlets and the USB charger. So I bought one yesterday as the shortest distance between telling DH and anything happening. He likes them.
Figured the power went out last night so the perfect time to swap one of the old clocks out.
Unplug old clock, try to plug in new clock and realize I now have a 3-prong plug trying to go into a 3-prong outlet but the outlets I want to use are switched to come on with the wall switch and the new plug doesn't go into the outlet because the lamp plug is in the way.
Finally found one that I can test out. Now we have to buy extenders for the other outlets.
It's always something.

Pretty easy fix to re-wire the outlet so as to swap which receptacle is on the switch, but only if you know what you are doing when it comes to electricity....
I hate plugs where the cord comes out on one side instead of straight out the back. In our house they are always upside down since our outlets are mounted with the ground socket UP.

We thought about rewiring then figured getting the extender would work, too. If not, rewiring it is.
If they were installed the way yours are that wouldn't be a problem.

Second issue with these clocks...they are 'back heavy'. The cord is so thick because it's also a charging station that the clock tips over at the slightest provocation, like dusting it.
Brand new and it looks like it's been around a few years as I've already knocked it off the desk three times.
Rethinking these even tho I like them. Did not get around to ordering them yesterday so I'm contemplating a different model.

Yeah, I think I mentioned that they were tippy because of the cord in my post about them. But we live with it for the very visible, accessible charging ability. Sigh

Dang, I must have missed that part.

Go to a bait shop and get some lead sinkers. This problem can be solved!

Why can't they make things perfect.

I purchased new clocks a couple years ago. They were advertized as 'one time alarm' from a hotel distributor. Are they? Only if you turn it off after!
They also have a nightlight that I thought could dim, nope. So many unplug it and drain the battery used for power outages. I have given up changing the batteries now.
They have 3 or 4 white noise sounds that I thought would come in handy for those that need it. No, people don't like those sounds so they lug in a fan.
You just can't win!

That's why I switched to the Sony ICF-C707. It's LCD and the bar on top selects the brightness. We leave them set as OFF and guests can hit the button to turn the backlight on, if they want. Stopped all the unplugging except for the idiots who unplug everything in the room.

Interesting as I saw a bright blue light as I came home last night from a guest room. Today after check out I went in and they had turned the item to the window away from the bed, and they could have just clicked the off switch.
As I said, BOOM BOOM BOOM OUT GO THE LIGHTS.
(These are intelligent people, but those are the ones who at times have no common sense or in a different setting cannot think straight. Another room told me should didn't shower because she couldn't work out how to use it. Now THOSE OF YOU who have been here know that there is NOTHING TRICKY about our showers. That was the funniest thing ever!)

Which is why I leave them set to "off" when a room is reset.

Which reminds me - I have to set the brightness on this one so it's on low. It was unplugged this morning, with a cellphone cable plugged into it.

Guilty!
i will turn a clock around or drape a washcloth over it or block it with a book. i'm really light sensitive and can't sleep with any little lights on at all ... and sometimes i can't figure out how to turn off the light on a gizmo. even dimmed it's too much for me. i hide from the little light in a smoke detector. have tried sleeping wearing an eye mask and can't. if i'm in a strange place, i am usually not noticing there's a light to be reckoned with until i'm half asleep. i would not want to bother an innkeeper to ask.
so .... i'm that guest.

I am exactly the same as you! i will unplug refrigerators too because I cant sleep with the compressor noise.

I have black tape over the on off lights on my ipod dock

except noise does not bother me - as long as it's a steady noise - i can sleep. why are humans so complicated?

typing this with a friend's small dog upside down on my lap, head pointed to the floor, looks like he's ready to fall off but he's seemingly content

Go to a bait shop and get some lead sinkers. This problem can be solved!.

Arks said sinkers but I thought flat washers. Will try to tape some weight to the bottom front and see if it helps the balance. It's not really a big problem here but it is worth a try.
