Keep alert! Scamers will stop at nothing.
In today's mail a bill from ECO ADVERTISING saying payment is due. Lists over 1/2 doz websites that we are listed on. I have heard of not a one of them.
Thankfully I take care of all my bills and don't just hand them off to 'accounts payable" to process.

Another scam, caller pretending to be our electric company stating my check did not process and wanting me to provide payment over the phone or we would loose power. Luckily one of the local TV channels had just mentioned the scam on their FB feed. So I told them I would have to call them back and hung up.

This time of year is the worst.

Yes we've had them here asking for credit cards numbers to pay electric bills or they will shut off the power. The power companies are on TV and radio assuring people they never call and ask for CC numbers. But I'm sure a lot of old folks fall for it.
Ever vigilant.

Its going around, we got one of those calls from the "power" company too, fortunately the scammer didn't have his ducks in a row and the "power" company he claimed to represent does not even provide power in our area so reasonably to spot as a scam.
Get a certain number of those mailed items from so called phone companies that appear to be a bill and somewhere in the fine print at the bottom state that they are an advertisement, make them legal I suppose, but still doing their best to trick you into paying for something you didn't really request.

We have received the Eco bill for 10 straight years. Usually quarterly. The info on their sites is horribly wrong and had been since they skimmed it to populate the site.
They deliberately put the wrong info so you contact them to get it fixed. I originally found out about them when someone called to make a reservation (or maybe that was a scam itself) for a place at the opposite end of the state.
I checked the website and there wasn't a single correct phone number listed with a property name of all the ones I checked.
Emailed them to fix it and voilà, the bills started coming even though nothing got fixed.
In the trash now without even opening them any longer.

I got this call from the "power" company about 6 weeks ago - about 12:30 on a Saturday so the banks were closed. To pay, you would have had to use cc.
I make Himself write the checks but I mail it so I knew it was paid. The patter is that this is a "courtesy call", the power is going to be shut off within 45 minutes unless the bill is paid. I replied that is very interesting since I know for a fact it IS paid and IF my power goes off, my next call will be to my lawyer. I asked what would have happened if I had decided to pay - bank is closed, it is Saturday, so how would I pay? He said he would have connected me to accounts receivable.
I posted it on FB to warn others in my area to tell their elderly parents beware. The Mayor said his Mother got that call last week.
