The VFD was hosing down the parking lot of the funeral home catty-corner from my house today. I HOPE it was a hydrant flushing and they were just making use of the water. IF it was just to hose down (clean) that parking lot, I am going to be unglued.
Guests left late this morning so I only got the towels & bath mats washed before I went to a lunch meeting. Came back and started a load of sheets - went brain dead because they were in the parking lot. IF they had been at the hydrant as they usually are, I would NEVER have started that load of sheets. Hi,self went to do the dishes and got the brown water in the rinse tub. The sheets had already gone through the wash cycle and were getting ready for the first rinse. I am praying that crap will come out with a rewash - but am not holding my breath. Looks like I just blew $100 (brand new king-size flannel sheets - used twice) plus the extra on my water bill trying to flush the brown water out. And yes, I have a guest coming in this afternoon. Sigh......
UPDATE: I had forgotten that the City has something they give out when the water does a number on the laundry. After 3 washes it hit me - so I went over and got some yesterday. It is issued with a data sheet because of what it CAN do, but it is specifically to remove iron and rust stains. a 5 minute soak and then wash. There is a slight discoloration on one end of the fitted sheet but could be attributed to color fluctuation in the fibers. I think all is going to be OK. I went up and changed sheets almost as soon as the guest left this morning so I could see how it was going to be.
