So did they spend the night with it?.....My friends came home from a vacation one time and saw that something had been in the house but couldn't find it until they pulled back the covers of their bed and there it was nested between the pillows sound asleep...a squirrel.
 
Many years ago while staying at a nice small motel I was awakened by the wife moving around suddenly about 3AM, just as I was asking "what the heck was going on" she jumped up and turned on the light, there was a large Frog on her pillow.
 
Was in Mexico City...turned on the light to go to bed and there was a scorpion on the wall about a foot above my pillow. That was the last night I stayed there.
 
And guests give me funny looks when I suggest that they might want to close the door or screen to their ground level room "because critters might go in while you're out here enjoying the day. You probably don't want to sleep with them." Actually said this to a guest and told him how another guest left the sliding door screen open (not sure why because I'm pretty darn sure fresh air can go through a screen - NO???) and a mole ran into his room. We had to get the darn thing out of the house and it wasn't any fun. This guest room had a regular door and it was wide open. Right beside the door is a giant window with a screen and two more windows with screens in the room. He said he wasn't getting enough fresh air so he was going to leave it open while he sat outside and enjoyed more fresh air. I looked at him in amazement and joked about if something does get in I hope it's just a mole and not a fox, coyote or bear because he was gonna have to get it out not me. Amazing people don't think about all the furry animals that live in the woods let alone black flies, mosquitoes and other bugs.

I remember that story. My parents went into a hotel in Texas and there was a rattler in the room. Last time she ever booked a first floor room.

we don't have proper wildlife - but our neighbour has 4 very friendly cats who are happy to pop in and visit with our guests given half a chance.

I've read that rude, pesky American gray squirrels are taking over the territory of well-mannered English red squirrels. They may eventually chew their way into your building the way they have some places over here! It's nearly impossible to feed the birds. The squirrels take it all. And, by the way, these tree rats are smarter than humans are! A real problem!

They may eventually chew their way into your building the way they have some places over here! It's nearly impossible to feed the birds. The squirrels take it all. We have a big water barrel in a garden that needed emptying so I asked the boss of the construction crew that was working here this summer if he could have it done the next day. He agreed and sent an employee. The employee walked over and looked inside and screamed. After he calmed down he said "There's a dead rat in there!" It turned out to be a squirrel but it gave the whole crew the willys. I decided if they couldn't handle it, I didn't need to see the poor creature.....
