This is from Momma Smurf!!! Poppa hijacked my account!
Have been working on this update with John since the end of the year. After some tweaking, it is now in place and is a very useful tool.
My original request to John: Many of us use an online reservation CutOff so that we don't suddenly get a reservation we aren't expecting. However, if we have availability, we do want folks to call us to make a reservation.
Using the system as it is now, they cannot see our actual availability and may assume that we have none. Also, sometimes we actually do have availability if a guest is willing to switch rooms, but because they can't see a calendar displaying that, we lose the reservation. Is it possible to have an option that shows the Availability Calendar with the Messages for Cut Off Dates AND when No Rooms are Available?
I think it's a feature many of us would appreciate and so would our guests.
To add this enhancement: Go to: Edit Availability Page
Find: Reservation Modes: Availability Search Page Show Availability Calendar:
Select: Only when no rooms available OR within a cut-off period.
My Customized Messages: Reservation Cut Off Message:
Same Day Reservation SEE CALENDAR BELOW FOR TODAY'S AVAILABILITY. X=BOOKED. Please call us at xxx.xxx.xxxx to reserve for Check In Today.
No Availability:
NO OR LIMITED AVAILABILITY. PLEASE SEE CALENDAR BELOW. X=BOOKED
It may be possible to reserve different rooms to accommodate the length of your stay. Switching rooms is simple and a wonderful way to enhance your experience.

I think I need more coffee.

Are you saying in a nutshell that you are telling guests they can view the rooms for the duration of their stay and they would then physically switch rooms to accommodate them for two or three nights, switching rooms each time?

I think your coffee just kicked in.

Yes, JB. We are so busy in the summer season (thinks 99% Occupancy), that guests will move from room to room if need be. Also, once we get going and say, some one wants 5 nights, but no consecutive nights in one room is available, with the old status, they would have simply gotten a message from RK saying no availability; and we'd lose the reservation. Now, if we have 2 nights in one room, and 3 nights in another, they will automatically see that we do have availability if they switch rooms.
The Cut Off message is most important. Example: Today is Friday. I don't want folks making surprise online reservations for Today, but I do want them to be able to see that we have rooms available for the weekend beginning today. With the old Cut Off status, they'd just see a message to call us re Availability. Now with the new status, they see the availability calendar and are much more likely to pick up the phone, instead of moving on to the next place in town.

and the other cut off request I have put in is to have a time, not just "cut off current day" as I have to manually go in and set up with bells and whistles to turn it off.
I understand completely, now. Makes total sense. Most would never think of even asking for that, just move on to the next place... Good thinking 99!

I guess this problem wouldn't ever have presented itself in my use of ResKey because I have the reservation mode set to "show availability calendar --always below search results--" So the availability calendar is always there, regardless of whether they are within the cutoff period or their search results in no availability.
And to JB's question, like the smurfs, we also have guests who will switch cottages part-way through their stay in order to stay for the period that they want. For example, say they want to come for a two-week vacation but their favorite cottage is only available for one of those two weeks, so they book another cottage for the other week. When this happens, we try to schedule our cleaning crew to do the cottage they will be moving into first, and the cottage they will be vacating last, but we also make sure that the guests understand that there will likely be a period of several hours when they might not have access to either cottage, and they have always been totally understanding. Looking at our calendar for the coming season, we have two such cases so far this year.

Once we start filling up for the season, I do set the Availability Calendar to always show. But now, when it's rather empty, I'd rather not have folks think they can take their time to reserve. Sometimes, I don't want my competitors snooping too...
And until this update, if you set a Same Day cut-off date, the Always on Calendar page began the next day, so folks still weren't able to see Same Day Availability... so this is a new improvement for you and others!

Up to now I have received Waiting List requests and yes, I have no idea how many same day moved on.

GH. Make sure you've created and set the appropriate Messages for each situation. You can control what folks see. Let me know if I can be of help.

Like Harborfields, I only show the calendar view and I do accept same day online reservations, so I guess for once I don't have to fiddle with anything (whew!). I can see how this will help those that use room view.

THANKS! I love people who are always thinking... one or two steps in front of me.

Now with this update, the calendar should be also showing up on your No Availability Message Page, making it easier for folks to alter their dates instead of just calling it quits. That wasn't happening before.

So it is helping you and everyone else.
