I've been one of the key members of our local tourist group pushing for a brand new website for the area. I've always been a firm believer in the worth of our group the reason being the other side of the lake is the main road and the usual tourist traps, this side is rural, quiet and far more beautiful. However if tourists are left to their own devices they will tend to the other side. We need a strong marketing presence to get them to come here.
It's been a long journey due to members on the committee who IMHO have allegiances elsewhere and therefore haven't always acted in the areas best interests, dragging their feet.
We are now getting there and I'm in the process of loading businesses from the old site to the new. I have to say I'm horrified at many businesses web presence'. Horrible websites, ancient websites, terrible dark photos, tiny photos, business email accounts on gma il or similar. And I'm not talking about one or two businesses but the vast majority.
How do they survive.

About 10 years ago when we visited Scotland, we drove along the lake while heading from Ft. William to Inverness. Our map had this written over the far side of the lake: Here Be Dragons. We had no idea there were roads and people over there. All we saw was nature.
So yes, you need to play up the beauty and peacefulness. And the dragons.

Thank you, you've just confirmed my beliefs on this topic. All this hard work to get a new website up and running seems a bit more worth while right now.

Can I just say that Scotland is on my bucket list! Sorry nothing to add to the post!

We were in Scotland in 2011 and we had to decide what to do when leaving the Isle of Skye. After had enough time to go to the bottom area of Loch Ness before heading to Edinburg, but since we don't like tourist traps and couldn't find anything to help us figure out where we might stay, we just headed through Glencoe and on to the city. For us too, the map looked as if you could only go on one side.
