I decided to try this 'lifehack' I saw online for cooking bacon in the microwave - the pictures below are mine.

You need a microwave safe plate, a microwave safe bowl, paper towels and bacon (also a microwave and pot holders!)
First attempt I inverted the bowl on the plate, lay strips of bacon over the bowl, put a paper towel over the bacon, microwave on high one minute for each strip of bacon. I decided to go a little longer which was not necessary as the bacon continues to sizzle a bit when you take it out.
Second attempt, on a different day, I didn't want to clean all the bacon grease off the bowl and plate so I put a paper towel on the plate, then one on the inverted bowl, then the bacon, then a top of paper towel. One minute on high per slice. Came out perfect with most of the bacon grease on the paper towels.
If you don't feel good about using all those paper towels, the second option is not for you.
Maybe a piece of parchment paper on top of the plate for easier cleanup.
If you try this, the bowl and plate get super hot - and they stay hot a long time. I rested them on a pot holder on the counter. And you need pot holders to handle them. Also, when you lift the upside down bowl off the plate, there is a lot of heat in that cavity and in the bowl, so be careful. Also, if you are going to cook more using the same bowl and plate it may take less time than a minute per slice because of the heat retained.
I don't know how useful this would be for you as innkeepers - maybe if you were doing a quick breakfast for two? Or breakfast for you! But I noticed the bacon was ready to serve before I was finished with a slap dash of scrambling eggs in the pan. That includes the heating of the pan, of course.
The bacon comes out very straight.
I've seen another video of cooking 1/2 pound of bacon on paper plates and paper towels, curling up each slice which takes about 7 minutes with a flip over after 5 minutes which I have not tried.
We have had boat loads of snow here, frozen pipes, ruptured pipes, flooded rooms, you name it.
ps It's snowing.

So sorry about the pipes. That's the worst. Well, roof cave in is worse, but water is right up there.

I say by precooked bacon and be done with it. That is what that bacon resembles anyway.
Or actually cook it.
Mmmm bacon, gee thanks SS, now I know what I want for lunch!
I was being selfish in my lust for bacon...
I am very sorry for the burst pipes and the flooding and the mess, I hope you will be okay and manage this freezing issue.

I always cook my bacon in the microwave. Thick bacon takes a little longer to cook, time based on the # of strips.
I like the fact that it doesn't shrivel up like in a pan or in the oven. And using the ribbed cooking pans, all the grease drains away from the bacon.
EDITED - sorry about your pipes, stay warm!

Oh No....burst pipes! So sorry to hear that. What a mess and expense this winter has caused. Stay safe and, hopefully, warm as you dig out and dry out.

Every time I see this I wish I hadn't given the guests all the bacon this morning.

Poor SS, grouchy old people having to deal with what they can no longer do, then snow & cold, and now burst pipes and flooding. The baton MUST be passed to you who do not deserve it (as if anyone does, but you the least). May everything get into the pleasant column soon. - For everyone.

Sorry to hear about the pipes! That's a mess and high expense...

today we have heat in there! hoping there is some kind of insurance compensation for the ruined things but who knows ...
* happy dance - we have heat *

Hooray! Heat!

Because of the snow only had two lone guests for breakfast today. Tried this and it worked nicely!
The best part, no hand washing the frying pan, just tossed out the paper towel and into the dishwasher with the dishes.
Sorry about your burst pipes!

Excellent, glad it worked for you!
If you know someone who lives in a dorm with just a microwave for cooking, this would be great! (As long as they're careful.) Of course, all the residents of the dorm would probably come looking for the bacon.
