If so, how do you manage it? When do you schedule it into your day?
I've been using our treadmill for 30 minutes a day what has been great. But it's not our busy season. How does one possibly fit in the 30 minute workout, shower, get yourself back together in a busy. Oh, and don't even bother to tell me to do it early in the morning. That's not happening!

WHEN I did walk on the trail with my friend, it was at 6 AM because that was the only time we both had available. Since that is not an option for you, I would suggest the 30 minutes before you go to bed. That way you will end your day with the workout and the shower you were going to be taking anyway.

I have to force myself at this time of year. Later on we both make it a thing to go out for a walk. But it's still forcing myself.
Not scheduled. Can't schedule anything. I guess that doesn't help.
Plus, I hate exercise for exercise sake.

Here's what's helping me stick to exercising for exercise sake. I take the ipad and put it on the treadmill and stream a series that's really good. I'll only watch it if I'm on the treadmill. So far, I'm hooked on Walking Dead. Can't wait to watch each episode. It's pretty gruesome, but so well done!

I might have to try it in the evenings. I don't know if doing it that late will keep me awake or not. Thanks for the suggestion, I really didn't think about doing it that late.

We are going on four years of successful daily exercise on the treadmill. Two things are critical- one you mentioned- have a show to watch. The second is just as important. Tie it to the thing you love the most. Our rule is...No exercise, no cocktails.
We squeeze it in some days usually before we have to begin dinner prep. If we get the chance to exercise earlier, we do.
One last thing, if there is not enough time in your schedule for it, adjust your schedule to make enough time. It has become a very important part of staying balanced for us, and it now has priority status.

One of the toughest parts of this equation is that we have no staff. In the summer we are going from early morning to late at night with our dinners, weddings (a lot of them are at sunset which can be 9:30pm), check-ins, cleaning, etc. You would think that being busy all day is enough, but Dr. says it doesn't count. I always gain weight in the summer because it's so easy to grab the fast, wrong foods when busy. I vow it's not going to happen this year!

We made the decision to hire our first employee part time partly because we had to have more personal time to stay balanced. Absolutely the best thing we ever did.

I wish I could. I'm working on it. It's not about $, it's being able to find someone in our sparsely populated area. Lots of vacation rentals pay housekeepers $35 per hour so they of course take that kind of work. In our 14 years here, we've only been able to find someone part time for about a year. Even the temp agency can't find people for us. I've tried that a few times also. But I'll keep trying!

Previous job I walked 5-6 miles FOR work. I still had to put in my 10 miles/week for my exercise.
We don't do everything you do but it's still hard to motivate myself out the door.
Too damn cold right now. Too damn humid in the summer.
Yes, we don't eat well in the summer. Right now we have guests and so I'm eating all the snacks again. Stop!!!
Pinched a nerve in my back last weekend so I'm a couch potato right now. It only hurts when I'm standing still. So I can walk, but I stopped for a car yesterday and I couldn't move once the car drove off. There I stood wincing on the sidewalk.

It's very hard to find help. We go thru this every year. This year I want someone every day, not just 5 days. Maybe last year's person will want to come back. I should find her email...

Take care of that back. That kind of pain can stop you in your tracks!

We are the kind of people who need to go someplace else to get into a routine for exercise. Staying here at the B+B is not an option because there is always something to distract us and we just don't exercise. So for the last 3 years I have been going out to take a pilates class twice a week. The class is at 9 am. Keep in mind that we have only 3 accommodations.
We serve a full breakfast to guests seated between 8:30-9:00 with cereal, fruit, yogurt and baked good s available on a self-serve bases until 9:30am. I am able to prepare everything and get on the road by 8:45. DH can serve the stragglers who are seated between 8:30-9:00 and those who arrive after 9:00 know that the hot entree is no longer available. They can serve themselves.
Last year we also added a membership to KOKO, an individualized, computer training program that is available 24/7 with the digital "key". 15 minutes of cardio and 30 minutes of weights added just the correct balance to our lives. We fit that in 3-4 times a week and it has made a world of difference in our energy, strength and overall mood. If there is a KOKO near you perhaps it would work for you. It takes a minimum of time (45 minutes) and is available whenever you are. It charts your strength and reports on your progress.

That sounds like the absolute best of it. I want to add some kind of weight training, but haven't figured it out yet. This is a great reminder that I should get going on that before my I am at the can't open a jar stage.

Mind you, I'm not complaining because I love where I live, but it can be a challenge sometimes. Our nearest town that has any type of 'gym' is a 30 minute drive just to get there. I tried it one time for a couple of months 3xs a week and enjoyed the program, but it was too much stress trying to work it in. I just could not be away for a couple hours mid day (horrible hours - closed at lunch and closed for the day at 5:00pm). I enjoyed the strength training. Happy, I'm already at the stage where opening jars are difficult!
Exercise must be in house for me. Any extra time I get walking on a beach is a bonus and definitely enjoyable.

My Mom has a group of ladies who do the exercises in Strong Women Stay Slim book. They made a tape so it counts for them and they just chatter away while doing the exercises. They even have other ladies show up just to join in the visiting! Right now we are in Florida since they couldn't do their walking up north on their off days so....I jump on the van since the B&B was slow! It's great and warm down here!
