i would like to tackle re-painting the kitchen. now. we have four foot frozen snowbanks outside and it's snowing again. forecast is for 5 inches. the house is pretty warm (except for the section with no heat and frozen pipes waiting for a homeowner decision

) but that's closed off.
anyway, now is the time to work on inside projects.
is there any problem doing interior painting when it's below freezing outside?
one drawback is i can't put the cabinet doors outside to paint them. i've heard it's better not to paint when it's humid, so this seems a good time?
i can't have windows open to air out the space but i could crack one if that's essential. someone else bought the paint and it's not low voc

No problem. Temp needs to be over 5 Celsius (40 F, I think) to pain, indoors or outdoors. Humidity inside should be low, so the paint should skin quickly. Yes, you will need to crack a window in that room. You can also add a drop of vanilla essence to help with the smell.

The professional painters are about to start painting inside the 3 new suites I'm adding. They said they can start as soon as the heat & air guy gets the furnaces running. If it's warm inside, the paint doesn't know how cold it is outside.

I'm painting 2 bedrooms this week. Always spend January painting. Too cheap to get low VOC paint.
Go for it. As long as the temp in the room itself is above 60 while you're painting you should be fine. When I paint in the winter I always turn the heat way down to 50 when I'm done. Paint sits there overnight, no problems.

My husband always does our painting in the winter. No problems. Most paint these days have very little fumes...at least the ones we use. :)

okay, then! any tips for painting cabinet doors inside the house - i'll have to leave them hanging up - since there is no place to put them if i take them off the cabinets. there are something like 25 doors. plus wall and trim. all will be repainted the same color.
i am seriously contemplating asking for an estimate from professional painters to just come in and get this done. may be out of my budget.

How about the cellar or a garage?

Basement has no area - just a furnace, oil tanks and then crawl space - no garage. But thanks.

Too bad! Got a friend with a cellar/garage who you could have a paint-a-thon with? My grandpa did that, invited his friends over to help redo a bedroom, but that was before my time.

We have the same weather, snow and cold that you have. Our neighbor is having a room painted that has an outside wall banked with snow. The paint on that wall did not set up the way it should, perhaps due to the cold condensation of the wall. Doors should be fine, but an outside wall might be better once it warms up a bit.

Are you painting the doors inside and out or just the outside?
Rolling? Brushing? Spraying?

RE: smell, you can add the vanilla as Jon stated or go to your local Home D*p*t or L*wes and look at all the additives they have on hand to eliminate the odor, add mildew resistance etc. too if need be.

Sounds like a heck of a lot of cabinets.
