I guess I am missing the article's LINK to enter the contest? or any info actually about the contest itself, great job newspaper. I also went to the inn's site and it is not there either. Terrific getting the word out MEDIA.
The question is this, could THIS the the tile and theme of the mystery book Mort is writing.

I would love to discuss the legalities of this if anyone is inclined to discuss this.

It's not legal everywhere. Several states have rules about being required to pay to enter a contest.
Looks like a wonderful property. But 120 dinners/night + 7 rooms? I'm dead after 7 rooms and my own dinner!
Will she get 7500 entries in another month? Don't think so. Especially if there's no info available.

JB, I thought I just missed it when I skimmed the article.

I found this interesting as this is how the current owner got the inn.

While this is a little different, we do have an org that raffles off a new home every year. The profits go to certain charities, and they only sell x number of tickets.
I am sure state laws need to be addressed prior to jumping into such a 'sale' of a property. And then there is the bigger issue so check with your CPA.

A little google-foo and I found the contest link: https://wincenterlovellinn.wordpress.com/

Family member finished in final 4 to win a B&B years ago. Unfortunately...

Yes I am sure, I was sharing that they didn't post it anywhere and expected thousands to flock to it! ha

Yeah I guess it's basically a raffle. They're legal in Arkansas. Like $20 for 5 chances to win a Cadillac, etc., as a fundraiser for Rotary Club and such.

Well many states allow raffles etc for charity but this one is not. At least not in the eyes of the state.

It made the local morning news show on TV. One of the anchors said that she thought innkeeping was probably one of the most stressful jobs there is....

Not a raffle -- it's a contest! The "winner" will be determined on the basis of the essay that they write, not chosen just by chance (presumably).

And remember, I am (at the moment) in a different state than the inn that is the prize for this contest, so the word is at least crossing the state line!

This story made the All Things Considered program on National Public Radio this afternoon.

This is a jail sentence, er I mean a wonderful prize for some lucky person. You know people will enter thinking once they win it they can "just hire someone" to run it. Would be interesting to see how it pans out.
It does read like another Maineiac - author Stephen King. I can see some really interesting variations to make it one of his stories... and I wonder how much more business the inn will get after all this advertising?
