Things we learn

Have you ever considered what a valuable resource the internet is? We can learn about anything from just about anywhere online now today. There are people who have never stayed in a B&B who come to this forum and learn so much, without paying a penny.
I would hope they would give back, by being contributors to the forum with their new found experience, not just a slam bam you know the rest...
Don't underestimate the value, even when it can get opinionated (how can it not with all these opinionated real people on it?)
If you have been on any forum, you would call this one mild by comparison in that department. When people begin to share religious political racial sexual comments then it makes everyone want to lash out or simply leave, but please stay and participate. We have some rules in place to try to nip these topics in the bud, yes we all have them in our lives, issues we shouldn't discuss on this forum - even when it comes to impacting innkeeping, as we know it will rile others up. We want to retain the forum as a safe place. We can write about all this stuff off the forum on our blogs or another group/forum that is specific to that topic...
Real people here, dealing with real issues.
--I know by posting this some will vent their frustration, and "Vent" is in the title of this forum thread and we understand. But consider that as we type to a screen there are real people on the other end reading what we type. I always forget to read it like the person on the other end would be receiving it, I personally need to remember that more often.

It is because we are so different - different cultures, different lifestyles, different norms of our regions, different size and services of our B & B (and types of facilities) - that this Forum is so valuable. IF we take the time to LISTEN, not just hear.
Of course, we will each read a different inflection from time to time. That is when you flip the bird to the screen, utter an expletive, and walk away - then quickly come back so as to not miss a word of what is said.
We have been sharks, barracuda, harpies - cannot remember what else, help me folks - but those are the ones we have (we hope) weeded out from the profession before they damage the image.

B - THANK YOU for posting this. We hope everyone will share info, thoughts, etc.
No we will not always agree, sometimes that comes to others as a shock. But diversity in our businesses keeps us what we should be - unique.
The world will not come to an end if we do things differently.
When a comment seems to hit wrong, walk away. Think about it and then come back and respond if you should, in a civil manor.
Most importantly always remember there is an ignore button at the bottom of each post. If someone seems to be hitting your button, you can hit theirs and never see their posts.

I am sorry that I haven't kept up with the forum. It felt to me that it was a very abrasive and cliquey environment Please don't throw tomatoes at me now.
I am saying this because I know how I can appear - abrasive and grumpy.
I did not think that I was a good fit for a B&B forum and did not feel welcome for some reason. So I lurked.
However, I do like coming here every now and again, to read and glean information. And if you will have me, I will keep participating, hopefully I can add some of my experiences.

PLEASE come back Iris! All of us can be abrasive at times and sometimes we're not even aware of it. Things did take a turn here lately, but I think we're back on track. You input is always welcome.

Iris, I have been here since the beginning. There have been a few times I flipped the bird at the monitor, uttered an expletive (maybe 2 - I know that is hard to believe), and stomped off. only to return to see what is happening/being said.. I cannot think of a better group of people to have as friends.
Long ago, there was someone who aptly called himself Toad - and every now and again actually came up with a good snippet. You, Iris, are no Toad. Fire away - all respectful opinions are welcome. (If coming from a REAL innkeeper, all opinions are welcome.)
