There's no directory, as far as I know. I'd love to know where the other ones are near me, but can't find out. Tesla knows, but they don't tell. State motor vehicle dept. knows, but they don't tell either.
It's hard for me to comment on road trips since I'm in the supercharger desert. I can't imagine what it would be like to be able to just drive and always know there's a supercharger nearby. If that were the case, since charging is free, I might travel on longer trips, and for longer stays. But perhaps a lot of Tesla owners are busy business people who may not have time for longer stays.
I can tell you, though, that there will never be fewer Tesla/electric vehicle owners than there are now. It's only going to grow in the future. It's a winning technology.
 
UPDATE: Applied for my building permit today. My electrician has quoted a hair over $1000 for everything. Both type chargers. Tesla and Universal. Forgot to add - the permit is being expedited to go through the hoops, not for rubber stamp.
Update on the update: What I have heard from the building inspector so far has me nervous - he did not like where we were going to put the breaker box and is also questioning the service line being adequate. IF it goes through, I will be the only Tesla station other than the SuperCharger on I-70. I have no clue what I am going to have to do, but I am prepared to do it unless it will bankrupt me.
My PR guy is salivating with what he can do with this. He is already priming the pump.

Yes I see the Cottage of the King already has a Tesla high power wall charger available there (that's the type charger they're giving free to many inns). So I'd guess they don't see the area as one that qualifies for a free one.

Yes, I was offered it for free and installation/electric paid for by Tesla. Now to find the right spot for it
 
Well garsh dern-it if this is the only way to get Arks out here I will have to do it. :)
I am married to an electrical genius, I only mentioned it in passing and he already had everything out ready to do the install. He has his own version of innkeeper A.D.D.

He has the just right bits and pieces in his "walk in junk drawer" that he calls his shop. He has it all worked out. We discussed security, as we don't want it just sitting there for any tom dick and tesla to roll up and use. I am sure if they found us in the directory they may consider doing that. They can if they want to pay for a night's stay.
I am inclined that as Iris said, there may be plenty of one nighters, but we may also be surprised by many who want a home base for exploring as well. Those are the ones I am counting on, form the big cities - out for a weekend getaway. And if you are looking for incredible roads to ride or drive, we have those in spades.
The cost would be $1.20 per hour here, and it won't be for free, it will have to be in the room rate. Putting all of this together shouldn't be yet another free amenity for our guests. Making it a draw for them is a good thing.
But forward thinking we will be.

- Subsidy:

If this goes through my husbands thick skull, we would be 1 of 2 charging stations, and we are in the premier location, smack in the middle of the dunes. The people that vacation here have loads of money, eat granola and are particularly green in their thinking.
But now, when I look at the Tesla site, they are showing these enormous apparatus. I sure don't like the way that looks in my situation. Also, I wonder how they feel about me being a seasonal business. I close my doors tight Nov. 1 until May 1.
Lots of questions that I am not going to ask them yet. I am communicating with them, treading lightly.
No big cities anywhere in sight. We are all rural all the way from Grand Rapids to the Upper Peninsula to be sure. Allmost all of it tourist country. Totally amazing and wonderful.

Enormous? The Tesla high power wall connector is a little larger than a shoe box, and of course there has to be a cable to plug into the car. The "universal connectors" that charge other brands of car are about twice as wide, but not as long, as the Tesla device. Regarding what months you are open, they don't ask anything about that. No worries. They either say yes or no to your initial request and that's it.

The "universal connectors" that charge other brands of car are about twice as wide, but not as long, as the Tesla device. Regarding what months you are open, they don't ask anything about that. No worries. They either say yes or no to your initial request and that's it.

Yes I see the Cottage of the King already has a Tesla high power wall charger available there (that's the type charger they're giving free to many inns). So I'd guess they don't see the area as one that qualifies for a free one.

Grrr. Not 2 weeks ago Tesla specifically told me they do not pay for installation, and certainly do not pay for electric (meaning they don't pay the charger's ongoing electric bills).

It must be slow going to get people to opt in. They offered me 1 of each and said nothing about a larger installation. It must be your location - your area gets a lot more than mine. More big cities near you, more traffic.
And my electrician quoted 1/3 of what they offered.

If this goes through my husbands thick skull, we would be 1 of 2 charging stations, and we are in the premier location, smack in the middle of the dunes. The people that vacation here have loads of money, eat granola and are particularly green in their thinking.
But now, when I look at the Tesla site, they are showing these enormous apparatus. I sure don't like the way that looks in my situation. Also, I wonder how they feel about me being a seasonal business. I close my doors tight Nov. 1 until May 1.
Lots of questions that I am not going to ask them yet. I am communicating with them, treading lightly.
No big cities anywhere in sight. We are all rural all the way from Grand Rapids to the Upper Peninsula to be sure. Allmost all of it tourist country. Totally amazing and wonderful.

You're looking at the wrong picture. That's a high voltage Supercharger. You're looking into getting a wall charger. Totally different

That is a $200,000 supercharger station! Tesla is building a network across the country. You don't get one of those! You get the little wall mounted stainless steel box shown in the photo above.

So this setup lets you know how much electricity they used, and you can charge them for it. Cool. Charging a fully depleted Tesla would cost about $4.
I'll bet in a lot of cases you'd be money ahead by giving them the electricity free and charging for the sodas and cookies they consume! ;-)
