So we have the opposite of what undersea asked about... How to keep the neighbors from wandering over? They drive down our alley, through our back parking lot, around the house to the front parking lot to bypass the red light. They go fast so we won't see them! One time I stood my grounds and made the SUV back the whole way down the alley to the road after telling them nicely last time that this was private property.
Any suggestions?

Private property, no trespassing. No thru street.
A camera (fake) mounted where it appears to be taking a photo of the license plate. Sign to the effect that non guest cars will be reported.
How about a saw horse or other gate like barrier during those times you don't expect guests?
Or, if guests generally enter and exit from one direction, then block the other end where the corner cutters are exiting.
Our driveway is prime turn around and 'overflow parking' for the hotel next door. Peeves me no end in the summer when I realize these are not my guest's cars. And my guests have no where to park.

We had to put up a Private Drive sign, much to DH's dismay, after so many cars would use our drive around for their personal turn around. And/or use our parking spaces for their overflow as they didn't want to have them park on the street.
It stopped the overflow parking but we still get the occasional turn around.
We have also had the signs stolen, located in a neighbors yard so we know it was the teens in the area. DH has now encased them in concrete.

Not sure how you or your guests use the alley way, but here are some ideas to deter the stoplight-bypassers:
Speed Bumps (big honking ones!).
Make the alley way one-way (the wrong way for the corner cutters) and put in a spike strip (obviously with appropriate warning signs).
A gate or other blockade -- you could go with a powered gate with a remote control or key-pad (give guests a code if they need to pass through this way).

Agree on the sign. You can buy official looking signs on line.
Private Driveway
The Awesome Inn
then a separate sign saying,
Not a through way.

This is similar to "how do I keep people from parking on my lawn," such as during an event or across-the-street garage sale.
People often put large, attractive stones where they don't want cars.
Some people also put up a HEAVY chain across the drive, anchored on each side to a post. You can always "colorize" it, if not attractive or obvious chain.
If your driveway/parking lot allows through traffic, that is a huge lure for drive-throughs. You should consider blocking the least used end with chain, stones, whatever.
Of course, there are always land mines :)

Private Driveway... be wary of homing pigeons.
Private Driveway... we don't tow, we flatten tires.
Or you can buy a private driveway sign and get someone to shoot a few holes in it... they'll get the message.

Thanks for all the input! It looks like a sign is going up. There was one at one time when I was a child but it fell apart and another one was never put back up... We park cars in different spots on and off so they never know if it will be open to go through or not. We leave room for the mailman to turn around. The construction crew block all three entrances with their trucks while they work here last spring since they got tired of the dirty looks/fingers the trespassers gave them as they had to go around their equipment.

Newest--- put trash barrels across the alleyway since we were running the hose across to the pool. I caught my uncle, who parked his car in front of the them and walk the rest of the way to the house!
