Do you ever serve fish for breakfast, as in salmon or crab quiche? If so, do you ask the guests ahead of time if they like fish? I don't want to go through the expense and work just to throw food out if guests won't eat it, but I'm not a big fan of polling my guests to see what they like or don't like.

We're on the coast and probably the one type of food that our guests request we don't serve is seafood. I'm really glad it's not expected because it's darn expensive! Unless you want to ask all of your guests if they would eat it, I would just forget about it.

One of the breakfasts in our rotation is an island favorite- our version is a healthy choice with 3.5 oz. fresh fish, poached eggs, and brown rice. It goes on a 12 inch plate with a fruit section above it. Exceptionally well received. Our fish is delivered. Mahi is the best choice for a breakfast fish here since it is easy to saute. It's also great as a GF option and we can substitute grilled zucchini or eggplant for the fish if need be.

Do a specific question - do you have fish or seafood allergies. We sometimes serve a fish or seafood dish. IF you have an allergy, we can be sure to NOT serve it while you are here.

yes we do. It has been well received. Mostly Salmon dish. Or shrimp omelets. We always ask if people have food concerns in our confirmation letter. we ask if they would respond. Then I ask again when they arrival. If they have any foods they do not like.

No we do not serve fish for breakfast....I have a shellfish allergy and smoked salmon is too expensive to offer at our small B+B. However, with that said, we have stayed at an inn where they have a small "menu" for breakfast and ordered their bagels and smoked salmon offering. And I have a friend who pushed her 6 room B+B to the top of TA in 6 years and sold it for a profit....lobstah eggs benedict was a signature dish that her guests raved about.

Do to our location many think it may be served and mention their allergy, dislike etc.
I do love seafood of all kinds but personally could not stomach the smell in the early am preparing it.
By brunch time I would be all over it!

Hadn't really thought about salmon. One of our continentals includes smoked salmon with sliced egg, fresh grilled asparagus, and capers in one of the zones.

When my dad was a kid the school bus driver had a question whenever he had to honk the horn and wait for a kid to come running out of the house. "Did you have fish for breakfast?" I didn't understand, but it had something to do with picking out all the bones before it could be eaten. Happy to remember an old saying.
Don't believe I'd serve fish here. Stuff we get is usually frozen and shipped in.

Yes, Salmon with curried Peach Mango Sauce (guests love it!), when we have guests that stay more than 3 nights to change up the meats.

I love that combination. Makes me want to try Mahi with a spicy mango sauce. Our mango farmer says the season begins June 1st.

I could eat fish morning, noon and night. I will come and sit at your breakfast table !

I am with you. I love fish and seafood - except clams - they are rubbery to me.

I always ask before I serve fish to anyone. The only kind I use is smoked salmon scrambled eggs if I do it. Guests who like salmon really like the dish but it is a tricky one for others because for some the taste is too strong.

I would go for a crab quiche because that is pretty mild but any thing else fishy for breakfast....for me...ugh....because I am not a seafood person at all.

Personally, no. I'd be your grumpy guest looking for 'without'

I do love shellfish but not first thing in the morning ... I don't care for much fish that swims and I cannot eat any kind of fish with eggs. I've always lived on the New England coast and have always been this way.

If you are in a coastal location I would say do it. If not, then don't waste your $.
Or If you have a large NE contingency, bagels and lox would prob be appreciated.
Or if you are in a coastal location let them buy their dungeness crab for their later meals, unless you are super upscale and people expect it. or just on Sundays for a special brunch/breakfast. :)
