New-Arrival-2-Layers-Multi-font-b-Plug-b-font-Desktop-USB-Outlet-250V-AC-Universal.jpg

I'm looking at sourcing a product. Price is likely $20 to $30 each. It will resemble this, but be just one layer. It will be 110/120V AC and connect in a normal plug except on the desktop side it will have these universal receptacles (so people can plug in almost any international plug). Two or three electrical outlets and 2 USB outlets. So you plug it in, leave it on the desk or nightstand for the guest to use. They don't have to go fishing to find the outlets, they are right there on the desktop and there are 2 USB slots too.
If I was to bring these in from for innkeepers, how many do you think would be interested?
Basically, works with out electrical but allows international guest to connect as well?
Or would you prefer if it just had the US sockets, even though it meant you had to stock adapters for your international guests?

Unfortunately, I get about 1 international guest/year so I couldn't justify installing these. But it would be a wonderful guest service for places who have more need. When I traveled "over there" last month, I realized at the last minute that I couldn't find my UK plug adapter, so had to buy one over there, at a neighborhood market in London that charged an outrageous price.
Of course, what really gets me over there is that many have 120V plugs in the bathrooms, but they always say "for shavers only". I'll bet they would charge an iPhone or run a laptop just fine, but I've never tried it.

Interesting. I don't get that many international guests either so maybe 1 or possibly 2 would be plenty. Would supply only when guest needs.
OTOH - I would be very interested in the standard US socket style. Will look into that - thanks for the idea.

It works for ALL plugs, so even normal standard American plugs fit in. The point being that it's there for anyone to use. And they don't have to go fishing behind the shelves.
I could make them with just American plugs, but I figured that with a universal plug is better.

Sounds like a good gift shop item. There gets to be a point to where international travelers should be aware enough to bring an adapter.
For heavens sake, things like using the hitchhike (thumbs up) sign or showing an open palm offends someone from some obscure country. I imagine someone coming here and being offended by someone who has no clue. "When in Rome..."

So if the product was like this... but only 1 level with US plugs, 2 or 3 plug outlets plus 2 USB, in black. Would you be more interested?

Really, there are so many products like that already out there. It's the international adapters that made it unique.

Exactly the problem. Those are on the wall, where you have to root around for them. This is made to go on the desk or night table so you don't.
Don't you see your guests moving your furniture to get to the outlets? Unplugging things because they can't find an outlet. Do you want them on their hands and knees looking to plug in their laptop or finding a plug right on your desktop or nightstand?

Flat surface space is at such a premium, I wouldn't want to set it anywhere.

See, I don't want them on the floor looking for plugs or unplugging things that are already plugged in. I try to keep flat surfaces clear for them anyway.
I hate walking into a hotel room and having to get on all floors to plug in my electronics. Or having to unplug things to plug in others.
There are two other possible models. One that sits in the grommet hole that a desk has, which doesn't offer much in plugs or one that sits in the grommet hole but pops up, which means you have to have empty space and replace it once the mechanism fails.

Yes, I definitely agree with you. When I stayed last at a "business hotel", there were no plugs in my room that were convenient to plug in my laptop or other devices. Fortunately, our plugs are situated in convenient locations and we've added the adapter with usb & more plugs to the existing outlets. We've also added extension cords to the plugs that are behind love seats, etc so they don't have to move anything to plug in a fan, etc.

On the wall is much better for me than taking up valuable desktop or nightstand space.
In my case I was able to put power outlets up at desktop level at my desks and at nightstand level by the beds, but if I weren't able to do that, I'd attach a power strip to the wall up at waist height. Definitely don't want people down on their knees looking for a plug in, and moving furniture.

Jon, I LIKE it. I would be interested in at least 1 of the universal ones - I would have it in or on the bookcase headboard - even though I rarely have foreign guests, it only take one to need to impress with being ready for them. I would also have one for each guest room and 1 for my office and 1 for our bedroom (I am constantly crawling or tracking down where cords go, which one is which or finding an outlet on our side of the house). I will FIND real estate for that device in each room!!!

We were just talking about a way that we could increase the bed-side receptacles for our guests. I would be interested in it if you could get it in maybe antique or black looking. Something that would go nice on a night stand.

Unfortunately, I get about 1 international guest/year so I couldn't justify installing these. But it would be a wonderful guest service for places who have more need. I've charged my phone and/or pad on a bathroom plug many times. No disaster yet. The reason they say shavers only is so you don't leave a device plugged in there and it slips into the sink, I bet.

I have both of those plugs . I put the plug in the wall in the their kitchen as it has counter space. And it swivels. the other one did not work well. As people pulled out of wall and installed it else where. But like the idea Jon had. As we get guest from all over Europe and Down under . Yes I would make space for it on the desk.

It would be all black or all white. I prefer the black myself.
Now I'm wondering if I should have only one outlet as universal (and the rest standard North American, in case it's too confusing that it's universal. Or maybe something that says "universal plug for all electric devices. 120V @ 60hz.
