Where to park in another city?
What's the best route to take to avoid traffic on this particular day? (no time frame given)
What mode of transportation should we take? (multiple options followed)
I'm not sure I even want to be in the middle of that discussion!
The only question I felt comfortable answering was should they check in at 9am to avoid the traffic.

awesome.
Last week, "We are going to North Conway. Should we stop in Portsmouth or Portland?"
Me, I don't know. Them, look of, 'of course you do, why won't you help us.'
Me, "Portland. That way you will have been in three states in one day."

I would be having that kind of stuff on the website. Waze and Google Maps say something about traffic. There is several websites that give every possible way to get public transit between two points (although not always correct). Even Gasbuddy for where to get the best deal on gas prices!
The more I see on this forum, the more robust I want my website and just say "follow this link"...

Hardest thing for me was giving referrals and directions to places I had no time to visit myself.
Always had to qualify things 'Some of our guests say ...' and pointing to the old laptop in the library for more info (dead cell phone area so they had to use our wifi either on their phone or our laptop)
They were incredulous that I didn't have first hand knowledge. Some places I SOOO wanted to go! That is the truth of doing a lot on your own with a limited budget. During the off season a lot of places were closed.

One of the standard jokes during cocktail hour here is, "You gotta watch us, we're innkeepers. We just make stuff up." Gets a laugh and reminds them to have a few grains of salt handy. I suppose it also helps removes the, "we followed your advice and it rained the whole time" card from the deck.

That's exactly what we've done, however you cannot force the horse to drink as the saying goes…most people don't want to read anything

Directions I am good. I have visited many of the B & Bs in my State so can help there, Traffic here is 3:00 to 3:15 - the high school and shift change at the power plant hit the road at the same time.

If they were asking about MY town and when to avoid traffic, whole other story. They wanted info on a completely different town. On a Friday. When all of the major city south of here either heads north (to here) or to beachy's place.

....Everything! My cousin's daughter just asked me a question and I said that I didn't know. "But you are an adult and they supposed to know everything!!!!" So I guess I'm still not an adult....

Seriously... sometimes I think I have the words "Google" tattooed to my forehead. (Worst part, often it's MoH asking me questions that I would have absolutely no way on earth to actually know.)

Though, I will admit that my sister does call me Google before Google existed, because I have this pretty good memory for things. But hey, ask me things I might actually know... not did it snow in Vaduz on the 12th of December in 1984.

The easy answer to that is pick a route, any route - all will be gridlock.

I get it!
It's just a crap shoot. If you know and provide they will go a different way. If you don't know you are to blame when things go wrong.
But no matter what, to get to the correct place you must enter the data correct into your GPS. This past weekend we had 2 different people place our address in their GPS and were taken out into the boonies. One followed it down a gravel drive into the woods that lead to a open pasture. Then GPS said they would have to get out and walk to their final destination. The other called us from the main road.
So what did these 2 do wrong? They misspelled our road name by not putting an S at the end. - Like 123 Smiths Place - left off the plural. They showed us what it showed on their GPS. Both used Suri. That road doesn't exist in any other system we have encountered before. But 2 in one weekend was pretty freaky! But of course is they had printed my directions as I state in my confirmation, maybe I would not have this story to tell!!!

It doesn't work. We have clear, easy to follow directions on our website. They use gooly maps and end up on a dirt road in the woods.

LOL!!
I had a guest leave this past week because it was raining. We kept the $. But really? Museums, restaurants, local cuisine, books you haven't read, water view from your room, even in the rain.

Do you know why Google Street View didn't drive by your inn?

It is true the correct is important, but entering the correct place is no guarantee. We used Google Maps to go somewhere, and tried twice, but neither was correct (one was 10 miles off!) We verified the address was accurate. Finally had to call up and get directions.
Sometimes, it could be a rural location that got "re-addressed" due to 911, years ago...

We still occasionally find we've been moved again. Either one mile away or into a different town. We still get the calls saying we can't find you but the GPS said we're here.

Guest called back. Left rambling message about how the whole trip is a disaster. They can't figure out any of it. Don't know what they're going to do now, etc.
Maybe wherever they are staying today can help them with maps and more info.
Just that they knew about the things they wanted me to make decisions on means they must have found some source of info that can be more helpful than I could.

They called you to tell you they were having a bad time while staying at a different place? I'm so confused. You really do get the winners!
