I can't think why I've never done this before, but this summer we are NOT giving discounts for single occupancies, we're charging the full room rate.
It seems to have had zero effect on the number of singles and groups of 3 in two rooms.

Good for you!
I had a single last week that spent 5 days with me. Mother of a bride at a nearby wedding, and on the last day when she asked if her two other children (staying elsewhere) could have breakfast with her, I didn't think twice and didn't charge her.
Most single-occupancy guests don't make a big deal asking for a break. Most don't even think about it if you don't make a big deal about how your rates "are based on double occupancy."

Have a single that arrived last night , full price. I have never done a single discount. I am just way to small for discounts. They'll go through a list of possible discount cards/assoc.,etc. but No is NO. I have King beds, full bfast delivered to room, etc. Italian water, cheese /cracked in room frigs ,large bath sheets, free wifi, parking, bikes, etc.etc. Try to get all these amenities for free in a Motel/Hotel. Bed and Breakfast are unique , no standard room décor & floor plan here ; )

I do a bit of one if they phone, but they would have got an over the phone discount anyway so wouldn't be much different.
I certainly don't do 50% off as it doesn't cost of 50% less to do the room.

I am most always alone, never ask for a discount, never get one. The only thing I'm not doing is eating two breakfasts. But I use a lot of towels, use the a/c, sleep in the whole bed
:)
The only place where I'm flinching is I want to take a cruise and need to find a roommate or one of the lines that offers singles. But I have no interest in a 'singles' cruise which a travel agent kept pushing at me until I told her 'we're done'.

I have NEVER had a single rate. Never had a double rate either. I do have a room rate and there is an extra person rate if there are 3. The room costs what it costs whether occupied by one person or 2.

Depends on the season but I'll knock $10 off if someone asks. But we don't have a 'single' rate listed.

Way to go HJ! I know in the UK & EU it's very common to have a single rate, but I never did understand why. Most still list their rate as per person. Good for you for going against the norm and doing what's best for you. Who knows, maybe you'll start a trend in your area!

I would never dream of giving a discount for single occupancy. Never had anyone ask either. Good for you.

We've had quite a few ask. But they are looking for $50 off and the most I do is $10.
We had guests last night who wanted a discount and kept bringing it up. I checked rates in town. We were $85 less than the next place with anything open and you don't get breakfast with them.
Gomez held to the party line.

I didn't deal with them. They called several times (probably eventually realizing they weren't going to find anything cheaper in town) but asked again at the door.
Of course, always glad that we stuck to our guns when we find out they just spent a week at a $400/night resort! And that sort of thing does come out in conversation over breakfast. ;-)

Thanks. Ditching the rate per person has been part of this change, by listing a single rate most seem to accept it. I've had 2 calls for singles who didn't want to pay a full room rate, but hey-ho, I can live with that at a time of year when the room will more than likely sell anyway.
