Email asking for 2-3 free nights during the week of veteran's day.

I had my first call of the year 2 weeks ago. I told her I start taking bookings for Veterans Day in August. I go down to being 2 rooms so each has a private bath and they can have Nov 9 thru 11. I want them to see my West Virginia and go home to tell everyone how much we had to see & do.

I think that's fine as that is your offer. I'm finding it pushy to ask me to give away several hundred dollars like it's nothing.
We didn't get a lot of guests last year as it was. It seems to have died down around here. Or the publicity just wasnt there.
We're still discussing if we want to do it.

I was not implying that YOU should do that. Criminy crickets, you have #1 - more Vets in the area, #2 - a heck of a lot more expenses than I do (WV is inexpensive compared to where you are (although it is relative I do not want your taxes)), AND lastly - it was MORE than cheeky for her to ask such a thing as the concept was 1 (that is ONE) night free. She had more brass than a brass monkey.

I know you weren't suggesting we do the same. It was more that someone asked me to give that away. It puts a bad taste in our mouths to even bother this year with doing the single night.
I know many people are not like this and most are happy to have the close to home getaway for the one night.
The tone of the email read like a form letter that has been used in the past. There was an implication that other inns gave them what they asked for after reading their story.

What a nerve. I've had one call and she asked if we were doing the one free night. In the past when we did it, we got people canceling the day of arrival as they couldn't find a sitter for their kids (happened a couple times). So the room sat empty when others would have gladly taken it. It really bothered us that people didn't appreciate it because it was free. We also tend to close that week now as hubby goes hunting and I get a break after busy foliage season.
So now we do our own thing for all vets that works for more of them on their schedule -- the end of October into mid-November we give all vets a buy one night, get 2nd night for half price. We've gotten lots of takers who appreciate getting to stay on a weekend rather than midweek when they work. And just this weekend a military couple who did it 2 years ago got married here, it was awesome. So do what works for you and know that it doesn't have to be free for people to appreciate it - the 1/2 off night in an expensive jacuzzi room on a weekend is better for many than having to take a day off if it's midweek.

Already got a message on the Facebook page asking when the list will be out.

I like your approach MtnKeeper. Makes for more appreciation all around.

Yes, it is the I deserve more people who ruin things for those who gratefully appreciate the gestures.
And I admit a LARGE part of this was done in the first place to publicize the B & B Industry. It took the massive participation we had to generate the publicity B & Bs got in 2010. We had 900 listed in the USA, 11 in Canada, 2 in Mexico, and 1 each in Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Paris, France, and Namibia in Africa. In 2011 Canada started it for their Remembrance Day. I have an idea to get publicity on a national scale again but it will also take participation. Will keep everyone posted.

I give the 3-nights weekday or weekend for Veterans Day but I also give the 15% Veteran/Police discount throughout the year - EVEN if the veteran status just came up in conversation during the visit.
