I was wondering about check in times and check out times. Would you all please tell me what your times are? Even the people from other country's.
I am interested as a customer told me in Europe you can stay all day at a B&B you do not have to leave . Your check in times can be any time .Really ? When I asked what happens when cleaning needs to be done . My answerer from him was they do not till you leave.
I know it has been a few years since I had visited across the pond. But it must of surly changed if that was the case.

We post check in 3 - 7 and check out by 11. We are pretty flexible. If someone wants to check in at noon and the room is ready, we are happy to do that. We often have late check ins.
We are also flexible with check outs but that is changing. It's just too hard to get rooms cleaned and groceries done if the house isn't empty by 11.
For next summer, I want to post check ins 2 - 6 with a big note saying, let us know if you are not able to check in during these hours.

Mine are check-in 4 to 7 (or whenever since we live here and I am up until Midnight anyway)
Check-out is 11.
And that man is full of CRAP - I am on a Forum in the UK and (loosely) another couple that are all over the world and they also have specific times. Some are more rigid than others. It is a pack of lies that in Europe you can stay all day at a B&B you do not have to leave . Your check in times can be any time .
They have the same issues with early check-ins (I need to check-in at 8:30 to change clothes because the wedding is at 11 - and - it is 9:30 in the middle of serving breakfast and the arrival wants to get to his room, the most recent examples). Likewise with the late check-outs because the innkeepers needs to go somewhere, needs to clean, or needs to shop. As one put it, did they want me to send the cleaning fairies to waken the guest from last night so they could clean & ready it for him?

Check in starts at 3pm until everyone is in. We try to get a time they think they will be in. Check out is eleven. One group had a wedding at 5pm, so they stayed in their apartment until then for $150 since we couldn't rent it that evening. They were fine with that.
We tell those who wants early check in that they can come in early but we aren't guaranteeing that their room will be ready. But they can leave their luggage/ car and use the half bath so they can hit town. That makes 99 percent happy.

I tell them they can arrive any time after 4 p.m. (I have self-checkin) and they have to be out of there by 11 a.m.
I can usually get them in earlier than 4:00 but I don't tell them that unless they ask.

I think they were pulling your leg! We had to be out by 10:30 and not come back until later in the day in Ireland. We've had Euros ask if they had to leave at a particular time and stay away.
Our check out is 11. Check in is from 3-7. Cleaning is from 9:30 to noon (so stated, it actually takes us until 1 most days). If you don't leave until 1 PM, your room doesn't get cleaned.

I have had honeymooners who never want to leave their room. or....just hang around outside all day... Fine by me...I just tell them if they want fresh towels or linens etc. Let me know. When and if they finally did go out then I refreshed the rooms.
Check in was 3 pm - 6 pm and Check out by 11am. But this was for new arrivals and then departures. Didn't control what times others could stay in the house during their time with us. That is up to them..not us.
If they aren't bothering me...I didn't care. I just went about my business.

We post check-in from 3-7, but it seems on Fridays, all bets are off. Love the guests who want to check-in early (1pm) and I'm fine with that cuz it gives me more free time in the evening, but what really ticks me off is when they ask to come at 1, you're ready for them at 1 and waiting till 7 and they never bother to call! UGH!
Check out is posted at 10, but we're flexible about that. I'll go as long as 12noon if they want and no one is checking into that room.

We are firm in our deadlines for check-in and check out. We allow arrivals anytime from 3:00pm on, as long as they let us know when to expect them. If they are already in the area they usually arrive right at 3:00, but if they are driving we request that they call us when they reach the landmark that is 1 hour away. This works well for us and allows us to be prepared, shop etc and have lunch.
Check out is before 10:30am. In the last few years this has worked especially well with most guests leaving promptly.
We do not allow early check-ins or late check-outs because they totally ruin our schedule and we end up resenting the wasted time and rushing around. When we speak with the guests we explain the fact that we do not have a staff so most appreciate the logistics of running the place ourselves.

We have a sign we put up on our door for when we are out doing errands. It says welcome and that check in starts at 3. Invites the reader to help themselves to coffee in the sunroom, and to relax on the porch. It also says to feel free to park in our driveway while they explore the area.
It has worked so far.

We used to do check-in 3-7; then about six years ago limited it 3-6 which made a huge difference in our lifestyle. After 6, we let them know that there will be an envelope left with their keycode, directions to their room, and all other usual check-in info, plus a map with dinner ideas.
This year, tired of those early arrivals (or promised early arrivals that are late) we decided to send out Pre-Arrival emails the day before to all guests. This paragraph has worked wonders:
Check-in Times: Between 3:00pm and 6:00pm. Arrangements must be made and confirmed in advance for arrivals BEFORE 3:00pm and AFTER 6:00pm. If running earlier or later than planned, please call us well ahead of time in advance as we are not always available for check-in during off hours due to our narrow timeframe to clean rooms and run errands. We keep our front door locked, but you are welcome to park your car in our parking area if you wish to explore the area until we are ready for you. There is no need to let us know you are here. Unfortunately, our 1880s home does not have a public restroom to use prior to check-in nor room to store luggage.
Virtually no one rings the door bell early AND lots more phone calls ahead of time saying they are caught in traffic, etc, won't make it by 6. We now are finished with our dinner and on our way to the third floor by 7:30 to 8:00 to chill.

I suppose some do that but I've stayed at several B&Bs in Ireland and Scotland and never had one mention a time I had to leave, other than checkout time at the end of my stay.

We don't kick out guests who are staying. If they want to hang around, it's ok with us. We will knock on their door at the end of housekeeping to ask if they need towels or any other service.

technically our check in is 2-9pm - but they turn up whenever, checked one couple in at 11am yesterday and one at 11.30 (2nd one was properly arranged due to lazer eye surgery) I'd rather get them in or at least given a key if I can as it means they are dealt with for the day.
Once they are checked in - they can come and go any time, but if they miss the last slot on the chamber maid's cleaning schedule then they only get a very quick whip round by me.
It is very rare that people are told to be out (say during a 4 day stay) by 10 and don't come back till 4pm - guests frankly wouldn't stand for it.
It probably wouldn't suit everyone and my having a chamber maid 7 days a week makes a big difference to my attitude I'm sure but I would rather have them in and set. I also see it as something I can do that costs me nothing and the budget hotel chains charge for that gives me an advantage - ie budget hotel near me is £12.50 per day parking (mine free) £15 early check in, £10 luggage storage - mine free and so on.

Personally I think they are confusing you by using the words check in and check out in regards to stay overs. Some places do require stay over guests to leave during certain hours (cleaning hours).
(S)He may have stayed somewhere that does that and is thinking it is customary here in the Americas.
At Copperhead's our check in is between 3-7, with self check in (pre arranged) after. Check out is 11. Guests who are staying over are allowed to stay on property throughout their reservation. We will knock on their door to see if they want a fluff otherwise leave them to enjoy.
Of course stay overs that stick around may see all the behind the scenes work that goes on. No different than any hotel where many a times I stepped over the vacuum cord or had to alter my path while someone was polishing the brass banister.

Make nothing of it Flower and carry on. Your business, your way!

Same here.... We give them clean towels for all of theirs, used or not since our towels are in sets. If they want maid service, they are told to ring the front desk on their way out for dinner/supper. The benefit/curse of having our employees live on location while scheduled for work!!!!!

Bull hockey
I pulled this from just one site in France...
"Pour démarrer votre journée, le petit déjeuner vous sera servi dans la salle à manger entre 8 heures et 10 heures.
La Belle Adresse vous accueille dès 16h30 le jour de votre arrivée et vous demande de bien vouloir libérer votre chambre à 11h le jour de votre départ. Toutefois, nos règles ne sont pas strictes et si cela nous est possible, nous essaierons de vous satisfaire."
Breakfast from 8 to 10AM. Accepting arrivals from 4:30PM. Checkout is 11AM. It says that they are willing to be accommodating... to a certain point.

Check in is any time after 4.30, early check in is by prior arrangement, not that many take any notice of that.
Check out is 10.30, chuck out is 11.30.
We do encourage people to go out during the day and come back late afternoon, can't really force that but people hanging around the house all day is rare just because of where we are.
That sounds like a load of bunkum to me.

I keep enough extra towels in each bathroom that even a Mrs. ______ (choose your State) contestant would be satisfied. The Mrs. Illinois pageant was held in the city I worked relief night audit. he wife of a famous Chicago football player came in at 6 AM and was lucky, I DID have a room. THEN she wanted every town in the hotel it seemed because the extra towels that were brought to her were not enough. Housekeeping was not in yet sothre were no more - she was not happy. (She lost that year but did win another year)
