The publishers of the WV Tourism Guide and WV Tourism put on a webinar yesterday on the results of a marketing study Tourism paid for (independent company - Destination Analysts) did the research).
I have been hearing "print is a waste of money" "Print is dead" for years. This study found 49.1% use print resources for travel.
I am going to share with my innmates the pdf of the webinar.

I know this group well. They are a big hit with tourism (state/regional) orgs. especially in the SE. They sure know how to talk UP the stats of what they know they can sell.

It is like any data, results can be skewed based on what the buyer wants the results to be.
Sure print is not dead, I just tossed a bunch of paper brochures left in a guest room. But in general what is the shelf life for the price paid? And I am sure that the results will be different based on which the age groups are questioned.
Print is way down on my list now, except for my business brochures and business cards.

I limit my print. I do my own business cards but I do get rack cards printed. In fact I just had a knock on the door asking for a brochure. I do print ads in select publications that are interest specific but are ALSO online.

I'm not sure how to get into a print tour guide but we are in several. Fewer people are mentioning them. But we tend to get more Euros using them.
I think people hold onto books they have purchased rather than stuff they picked up for free.
I've had to ask some guests the date on the book when they quote $95 room rates. ;-)

We do one print ad - it's because I like the publication. It's a tour guide. I generally hand out 50 copies myself.
 
So glad the visitor's guide is now on line. I get a few hits from them. I do give out the printed guide when they come. If nothing else it had a map!
