This is the second time in about a month that guests have actually put a towel on the floor of the shower. There are anti-skid strips on the floor and we clean the floor with bleach. It's annoying to have to deal with a dripping soaked towel. And it's just plain odd.
Not that this guest will come again. They are on our DNB list already. (Must live in barn leave doors open, pry into our privacy, complaining all the time, etc.)

But what's with the dripping wet towel on the floor of the shower nonsense? Anyone other than Morticia (who sees EVERYTHING) ever seen this? Deal with this?

That is on the same page as the guest blowing his nose in the shower and leaving it. YUCK---disgusting.

YES! Is it in the same room, both times? We had a portable AC that would run for twenty minutes and turn off. The guests would not want to disturb us so they would wheel it into the bathroom and empty it in the shower all night long (towel used to clean it up) They finally spoke up, a new ac was sitting running smoothly when they came back to their room. If it has a fridge in the room, check it as well for water pooling, etc.

Remembered another time the guests said that the drain to another room's shower wasn't draining... also a towel laying down in the shower.... to clear a drain fast, easy, and with little mess....use a shopvac to suction out the problem, dump water down the drain, and wait to see if the problem persist. Repeat until it drains well. Run the water down to fill pipe to keep the smells from backing into the bathroom. Wipe down shower.

Every now and again I find the used towels in the tub/shower. It is their way of saying 'fresh towels please'. Usually they are not dripping wet, but had had that too.

in the UK towel in the shower means change - its an industry standard.

Sopping wet towel sounds like standing on the towel afraid to fall. Or sitting in the shower on the towel. Or yes maybe a,leaking thing. I myself toss damp towels to be changed out into the shower when I stay someplace. But if it's soaking wet is the shower dripping? That's all I've got.

Let me clarify... they take a lovely white clean towel and put it on the shower floor to step on while they are showering. It is SOAKED because they showered with it under their feet. The same soaked you sometimes see with facecloths. This isn't NORMAL.

I understand what you're saying they stood on it didn't want to stand on shower floor?
I once saw a guest blow his nose into a dinner napkin then carefully fold it and place it on a set table and leave the room. I tried to head him off but had to rush and snatch up the napkins and place settings before new guests sat down. Forever after i never trusted napkins that looked 'unused'. Ugh

Some people just don't trust that the floor is removed of germs. There for they use the towel as a matt . Just keeps them from stepping on what they feel is not a clean floor. Try putting a rubber mat rolled up some where. Then people can use if they want. And they won't use your towels for a matt.

My guess is they don't know about the bleaching and have an unreasonable fear of athlete's foot.

It's a shower. I've never seen a mat for showers.
But it's only twice in a decade. Not going to worry about that. These guests were very particular.... in fact, I would say that they are the kind that more frequents Morticia than me. Certainly they wanted me to be some sort of Ritzy hotel. It reminds me of this old joke... https://www.reddit.com/r/Jokes/comments/1vmy8d/two_old_jewish_women_sit_down_at_a_local/

I have to lose this special little snowflake magnet.

to be fair I have had that - used towel as a shower mat - its why we have non slip bath mats in every bathroom especially after DH fell in the shower when we were away

I have rubber treads in the showers, stuck to the floor. I'm not sure how I would do a rubber mat. The shower floors are fiberglass and they are 90 degree corners (so rounded). I'm not sure how one of those mats would fit. Or maybe I have to cut them in two?
But why am I worrying about 2 people in a decade?

It's normal if they don't want their feet to touch the shower floor and fear of germs....perfectly normal.

I have to say...I have done it a time or two in places I consider dubious.

Correct, no need to worry about this. But if you do decide to buy mats they do make some for shower floors.

Personally I do not like the mats. I would be less likely to use a mat in the shower than just stepping in - when thinking germs!

When we were in Spain we stayed in a very modern hotel with nice walk in showers. The problem was they had too much of a tilt to the floor for drainage and the floor was very slick once wet. We did the towel trick and saved ourselves from a nasty fall.
