This would be for home use, not loads of inn laundry.
There is a washer and dryer, side by side, and a small space to the side. 'The Oldies' toss nasty dish towels or napkins into the washer as though it's a hamper causing issues with the rest of the housemates. There isn't a lot of room for a hamper and it won't have to hold a lot. But last night someone opened the washer and tossed two dish towels used to mop up something foul smelling into a washer full of clean clothes. A repeat performance.
I know having a 'hamper' will take some getting used to but it's either that or they'll throw the dirty towels or random things on the floor in front of the washer and then the little dogs grab them as toys. not good
I'm looking at the different hampers ... I don't want to pay a fortune but I also don't want it to fall apart right away. It will have to be narrow as there isn't much room.
Thanks for any advice.

My husband went to Low es and got one of those wire basket shelving units and he installed it by our sink. ours has 3 different basekts...one for whites, one for darks and one for colors. Since it is wire baskets, no smells. And this stopped him from washing whites with darks! Something like this could work for you. http://goo.gl/ZMT6O7
He of course installed the track on the wall and inserted the baskets.

May not be the answer you're looking for, buy I often build things to fit the available space.
Once built a hamper to fit such a space, an opening at the top for dropping in the clothes and a door at near the bottom that could be opened to retrieve the clothes.
Don't know size of your space or the volume of items, but what about a tall slender kitchen type waste basket to slide in the available space.

That's what I use. A tall kitchen trash can.

oh! maybe a skinny trash can. I can't build (successfully) and the canvas laundry things are too wide. I will look for a thin trash can - might work. If not, I'm sure I can find a use for it elsewhere in the house. :)
