The annual PA Innkeepers' Conference is next month - November 3-5, at the Ramada Conference Center in State College, PA. Here's a link: http://www.painns.com/conference-2015
If you register TODAY, you can get the early bird special rate of $159. This conference is NOT limited to Pennsylvania innkeepers. Anyone and everyone is welcome. It's going to be a GREAT conference. It's one of the most reasonably priced ones in the area. We'd love to see you there.

Do you think that with PAII in flux and the new AIHP trying to get started that this is a time innkeepers might turn to their state associations more?
Our state association has grown by 30% this year!

Just finished an online meeting with the UK B & B Association BedPosts. They are trying to get membership up also. I am on their Committee which seems like what we call a Board here - was invited to be on the Committee when I joined the Club. Cambs is on the Committee also.

we don't have many international members but any and all are welcome - it is however a closed forum ie you apply and they check you are a legit B&B etc but its not a massively rigorous process just intended to weed out spammers etc

I joined ours this year and I'm so disappointed. Seems like no one cares about it!

I know this is about Conferences & Associations, but I thought I would put a "sales call" I just had in here. It really was a good one.
A very personable voiced young man started off actually using MY name. The product he was flogging was pens. These pens have, instead of a clicker, a mini stress ball and on the stress ball would be:
Don't stress, Stay at the Best Gillum House Bed & Breakfast
How they expect to get all that on a mini stress ball I have no idea. It was 100 pens for a mere $258. No brought it down to $236. Then it went to $226. I told him it was the best spiel I had heard in a long while but the answer was still NO. I ended up having to hang up on him which I was sorry for, but I tried the polite no and goodbye.

Reporting that we had a hugely successful conference. over 120 innkeepers; 27 vendors; 23 aspiring innkeepers; lots of wonderful speakers and presenters.
We're hoping you all can come next time.

Maybe some day... I'm glad it went well!

One reason I have never joined ours. There are about 5 members that have kept it going. It appears they have gained a few new members but it is still just a small fraction of the number of B&B's in the state.

That is why they need you. Bon nie Ra be was Prez in 2006 when I came down to teach an Aspiring Class. They need members and fresh ideas (if they are smart about it). My "Old Guard" almost killed ours by not being willing to involve the "fresh meat" as I call it. Once we got some new ones interested, I stepped aside and left them to it - I was NOT going to freeze out new people. They call me when I am needed only - that is the way it should be.
