I'm not sure if I am posting this to the correct place. I'm new around here (I just signed up yesterday) so I wanted to introduce myself to everyone. I'm a young traveler and programmer from Southwest Missouri. Along with my wife and young daughter, we're frequent guests to small inns. I just wanted to say "hello" and comment on how much I enjoy reading your rants, stories, and tips about what it takes to run the places that we love to stay in. I fantasize occasionally about running an inn when I retire (although I'm still a long ways from that) so it's a joy to live vicariously through you guys a bit. I hope you don't mind! :)
I'll be lurking around here a bit, if it's okay with you guys, and I'd love to chip in (even just for moral support) when I can. I see that there are a few of us "software guys" on the forum and the last thing I want to do is clutter up the place with solicitation. I am, however, interested in helping out here on the forum where I am able and keeping an eye out for needs and problems you all face in your day-to-day running small inns for us travelers.
Thanks! Looking forward to getting to know everyone. You seem like a wonderful lot.

I lurked here many years ago while we were in the remodel phase of the game, that lasted a few years. That lurking was the best time investment I have ever made! So many mistakes not made, so many good ideas put into practice.
I also lurked on a UK board for a bit. Learned about the dangers of weddings and the importance of waterproof mattress pads. Enough said there. They eventually kicked me off because they often let their hair down about my own countrymen and our guest behavior when in their establishments. I didn't mind the comments, always good to learn to be a better guest too.
Welcome. :)

Thanks for the welcome. I had the same thought about that there is a lot to learn in regards to being a better guest from this forum. For instance, I'll be sure to be extremely diligent about using a coaster and I'll never, ever use the room book as one! ;-)

What a refreshing thought! I'm sure wherever you stay will certainly appreciate that. However, with that mindset, you're probably already a pretty considerate guest.

HI there, welcome. I worked in IT , all sorts of things such as tech. specialist, programmer, database performance specialist.
After 23 years of sitting in an office staring at a computer screen I decided it was time to move on. Found this house, been B&Bing for 12 years now, still enjoy doing small computer projects for people, but woldn't want to go back to 35 hours a day, 5 days a week (and the rest).
