Just received an invoice from 3A for a prime time stay in August asking us to pay a 10% commission? We have no affiliation with them whatsoever. Have had no other encounters in 10 years. The name and calculated amount is accurate, but we have no obligation to them, correct?

I get these once/year. Last one was from a collection agency!
The travel agent has to speak with you and you have to agree to the commission.
We don't. And I don't pay when they send these.

I would say no unless you advertise that you pay travel agent commissions and they stated who they were when they did the booking for the guest as well as mentioned the commission.
I had this happen a few years ago with another travel agent who sent me invoices with overdue on them, then threatened to send it to a debt collector, it was under $20 so I laughed that off. There was no information shared nor had I agreed to pay a commission.

I know I am not the only one who has taken a reservation for someone and ended up receiving a % due in the mail and then not paid it and had a letter threatening collections.
I am sharing this for NEW innkeepers. It happened to us, a company who books all the travel for a major medical system booked in two nurses at our hospital then 2 months later sent us a bill. I already gave them a STEEP discount, I was fuming and had to pay it in the end. I will NEVER take a reservation from a third party again, ever. I can feel the pimple on my chin stick out just thinking about this again.
I surely hope this Three-A is not pulling this crap Momma Smurf.

I don't pay commission. I allow them to charge as much as they want and pay me and I won't disclose the amount they paid... but I won't pay commission.

I never spoke to any agent nor the guest re Triple-A. She must have provided someone with the info though. We have no verbal or written contract and explicitly say when asked for a discount: Sorry, we little guys are not affiliated with any big guys.
