Couple traveling New England came in from the mountains. A 3 hour drive. To get a call from the babysitter and they have to go fetch their six year old son. From 2 hours away. She stayed and ordered take out. He drove. They happened to have booked a room with a pull out sofa, so no emergency accommodations.
BUT, I had planned to serve pumpkin spice pancakes and mini apple pies. We switched to plain pancakes and cinnamon muffins. All was well. The kid was adorable. He loved the koi fish and wanted to get to know the cats. (the cats vetoed that idea.) And he was so excited when he saw us putting up the Christmas tree.
A fun addition to our holiday weekend. I guess the moral of the story is, even though we don't cater to kids, we bend, and sometimes it's truly worth it. Smiles all around and a promise to come again in Summer.

That was sweet of you. Glad it worked - it depends on the kid and the parents which way it will go. VERY happy for you that it went well.

Children can be such a blessing! Parents make all the difference! So on that note, to all the parents on the forum-- Keep up the good work of training your children! It's worth it all!

I am pleased to be able to say my children have continued the family tradition of raising future good citizens following in the footsteps of the 3 who are now adults.
#1 was Navy for 10 years (including 1 year assigned to an Army Unit in Afghanistan by request) and is now Navy Reserve as he goes to college. His brother (#2) is a teacher and coach of several sports at a high school in the burbs of Chicago. #3 graduated from high school and went directly into a dental program and has a job lined up as soon as she finishes. Sorry, I had to brag. 6 more coming to the finish line - ages 13 to 3.
