Place sure is quieter. No cold calls, no marketing calls, no more calls for the gift basket company that has a similar number to ours.
So glad to get rid of it. With cell phones, people no longer care as much. Local number is fine.

I have been removing the toll-free from marketing materials for the last few years. The s-i-l even has a cell phone now. My last toll-free bill was 75 cents. Only the fact that there are still materials out there with the toll-free AND the fact it only costs when used - the bills tell me not much - keep me from dumping it totally. The one good thing is it is the same number as the local - just 888 instead of 304 - so it may not cause too big a problem when I do dump it.

Glad that we chose never to do it. Glad your world is quieter.

I swore I was doing this last year. Gomez vetoed the idea. We are still getting calls from real guests who have had the 800# for eons.
The number is everywhere - printed material, directories, etc.
I've tried backing off from putting it on new listings.

We inherited an 800 number with the purchase, so we've deleted it from all advertising. We keep it just because a lot of return guests have it as the only number. Hopefully in another year or so, we'll just do away with it.

We almost got rid of our 800 number a year ago but Grandma wouldn't hear it.... We have all numbers forward to our business cell phone. Since Grandma is the owner, we tell them... "I'm sorry but the owner retired from business calls and the manager is out of the office..." As we stand there next to a half finished bed. It took the summer for them to realize the truth as they call everyday. Its so peaceful now. Just one hasn't figured it out yet... they call at the same time everyday so we let that call go to voicemail.

I inherited 10 yes TEN 800 numbers with the property. Killed them all but three, and use VOIPO for $35 per year, per line. Use my referral code and get a free month 8662891846 (shameless plug?). I'm going to kill them all but one next year.
