A wonderful surprise indeed! That's a great way to start the New Year. Congrats!

Like we always say - remember those guests who make it a pleasure to host!

That is a great review! I love reading our good reviews, especially when I'm in a bad mood or frustrated about something.
You'd be surprised how many people shun motorcyclists. Shelley got stuck running the B&B over the weekend of the motorcycle rally by herself. She said it was the best weekend with the best guests.

In January 2009 I got a call from a man who wanted to reserve all 3 rooms for 3 nights for a nearby motorcycle event. It was for 6 men. I pointed out we only had 1 bed in each room. He said that is OK, we know and we don't care. I started getting nervous along about April and called him to confirm. He said, "Don't you give away our rooms!" and I got a check in the mail for the whole amount (he did not have internet - his grandson found us).
On the day of check-in, 6 motorcycles pulled into our driveway. The oldest in the group was the newest rider (for a little over a year) - he had just had his 88th birthday. The youngest was 67. They were great.

Do you have in room guest books for the guests to write in? I find those to be helpful when someone has just been a jerk. Most guests write something very nice. I have thousands of lovely comments in the books compared with less than 200 online reviews!

I also have the guest comment books in each room. The Gillum Room is on its 3rd book, the others on their 2nd - Gillum has always had the biggest bed, then it had biggest bed & private bath.
Every so often, I bring down one of the books and add a comment from the book (word for word) to the comment page on my web site and just put initials of who wrote it.
It is sad that I cannot just let people post to it, but I have to block comments on my blog because of the crap that gets posted otherwise. One guest called - very frustrated because he could not post a comment to my web site.

motorcyclists have never given us any trouble - had 16 swedish people here for the annual european Harley convention who were traveling the UK afterwards then home - all super nice but tons and tons of camping gear! don't know how they got it all on the bikes! they like us cos we have a good protected car park.

Oh yes. When we've had a trying weekend, we get together and read past comments that our favorite guests left in our room comment books. It really helps especially when I'm questioning whether becoming an innkeeper was the right decision.

Before we took over, I was thinking about doing a covered parking to cater to motorcyclists. Something like a wedding tent that we can set up and tear down.
Wedding tent
I was thinking about the two bay tent there. Or even putting in a carport for us, but offering it to motorcyclists. We've spent a fortune on remodeling so far, so it might wait until next year.

We don't have covered parking, but we do have a paved lot with lights. We had bike groups here a couple of times but they are very fickle. If it rains they cancel. I don't blame them but what am I supposed to do about their rooms?
Another innkeeper used to tell the groups staying here that he had a barn they could use if they stayed with him. Sigh.

I do not hve covered parking - they just get my driveway. If it looks like rain (or is forecast) I offer a tarp to cover but many travel with a cover for the bike. I also keep some old towels in the shed for them to use to dry off the bike (dew) and a hydrant (garden type) with a hose that is next to the driveway if they want to wash the bike.
We just got the idea for the next motorcycle ad (thanks guys because telling you was what sparked the idea). I need a friend who has a Honda - most of the bikers near me have Harleys. I will have the bike in the driveway with the hydrant & hose and a stack of towels.

If we have just the 1 bike it can go under the porch at the back by the back door - if there is more they just park all over the car park - its less a weather issue than a security issue they want to be sure they are safe - especially considering what they cost!

Exactly. My advantage is being in such a small city with very little crime - my driveway being in sight-line of the Police Station does not hurt either.
The drug scourge has hit here so crime is going up, but stays more 10 miles north or south of us in the "big cities".
