We have one whole couple staying with us for one whole night this weekend. Walk in the park!
Do you do anything special when it is only one couple?
When we have a full house, fruit is served in a large bowl for self serve. When we have one couple, we serve the fruit in two martini glasses. A little more special.
Also, I might make omelets. (I don't do omelets for more than 4 at a time.)
What do you do when you have the luxury of serving only one couple all day?

Whatever's in the house. Woo woo no shopping!
We sometimes have only one person. Same thing - whatever's in the house.

Love that!
.
It's because we always do a full breakfast. We look at one room as a break rather than the chance to do something extraordinary.
We might test something on them, tho. But we usually save the guinea pig stuff for long time repeats who will give us a straight answer rather than worrying about hurting our feelings. ;-)

When it's just one couple, I ask them what time they'd like to eat and then give them a couple choices of entree to start with. They love feeling special and then I'm sure that they'll love what they get. Can't do it when there are 18 guests.

I like to ask them what they'd like.....makes them feel special and it seems like invariably, they ask for eggs Benedict or blueberry pancakes!

Do you asked open ended or offer two options? Do you make each person what they want or one choice for the couple?

good question. I know DH has offered a choice of entre, but he gives them the choices.

Egg bake with English muffin bread - I want to "knock their socks off" and the bread does it.

Well I just say say, "so what would you guys really love for breakfast?"........and they usually look at each other and say the same thing. However, it has occurred that one likes sweet and one likes savory, so I have cooked them different dishes....and they were majorly impressed. BUT I used whatever fruit and breads that happened to be on hand.

The same thing we cook for a full table, as we serve plated. But, it depends on why they are staying with us.
Example, Canadians stopping over enroute to Fla or vice versa they never want a sweet breakfast, and so an omelete with potatoes and fruit is a good plan.
Are they the only couple on a special anniversary getaway, then a sweeter breakfast would be the go-to. We always serve a protein wit every meal, so when I say sweeter it would include eggs and bacon, et al.
i never ask them, and I alway know hey are coming, so plan accordingly. But may not special shop for one room if I have the goods on hand.

I like your style.
We will mention "a romantic breakfast for two" as well. Those just traveling usually look at each other funny. Doesn't matter, we will make it special anyway!
