When you see QR codes do you read them with your smartphone or are they passe? (QR codes, not smartphones, I know they're not passe!)
Do you want to know where you're going before you scan them? "Hey, look at this neat page of radiator cap ornaments from the 1920's!"
Do you think QR codes with logos or color are more impressive?
Thanks, working on my room books and hoping to lead guests to the website instead of redoing these books when stuff closes/opens.

I scan a QR occasionally. Not often, but if the ad mentions a website I'd like to check out, it's easier to scan the QR than to manually type in the URL. I wouldn't say they are passe, but the new has worn off, they no longer define the advertiser as cutting edge, and they really never amounted to as much as many had expected.

Yeah, that's what I thought. I don't see them anywhere anymore.
Any other ideas besides putting the actual URL on the piece of paper? Probably should do that anyway, for those who don't have a reader on their phone.

True, QR fad dying out mainly because the codes linked to mostly uninteresting stuff and people quit doing it -- and because most smartphone browsers do so well with voice input so typing isn't needed as much. I'll add our home page QR code to our next print of our rack card -- it is worth a square inch of cardboard real estate.

I scan them if something of interest. Social media people around here still say you should use them. It's worth a itty bitty space on a rackcard or back of business card

Adding them to the pages of things to do and the restaurant page. Those are the things that change most frequently.
Went from long lists in the guest books of things to do, restaurants, etc to 'Mort & Gomez's top 10'. Makes life easier. Big chart, fewer words, and the whole 'top 10' idea. Then the QR code for those who have BTDT.
I'm feeling encouraged about these books again.

In my room books, I put QR codes that pull up a google map showing the route from my place to the point of interest or restaurant. Just scan the code and you have a custom map on the screen, plus turn-by-turn directions. It WAS cool!.
I say "was" because not long after I got it all perfect, Apple stopped using google maps as their default on the phone, so scanning the codes suddenly took the iPhone to a text page where users had to tap a "show map" button. Not cool!

Sadly, there were programs like google goggles that had promise but have faded away ... that you'd scan a picture and get to a website.
If I knew how to create an app ... I'd do it!
In your case, using the QR codes to keep the books up to date sounds like a great idea. Really. Because you have no control over other businesses and sites to see ... although of course the tiny lobster shack near me had a web 'page' but never posted they'd be closed for a week in August :)
I like the use of color and also the kind where you can put an image without distorting the code. It's worth a try.

I would just make sure that whatever page you link to with a QR code is designed for use with mobile devices....

I'll just use voice input on my phone now instead of using the app for QR code in a magazine.
Our historic foundation has put them on new historic markers around town or added them as old signs have been replaced to take people to a detailed link or a video link.
I can see where there's still good uses for them....

Picked this project back up again today. Got one book finished. Now working on the others. Already made changes to the pages, even tho I was trying to avoid that with the QR codes. One restaurant burned down and one burned us. Needed two new places on my Top 10 list.
Cut the books down from 20 or so densely-packed pages to 14 light & breezy Top 10 lists.
Have to start pulling the old books out of the rooms on Monday when everyone checks out.
