It seems that a good relationship with another inn who hosts big weddings is a smart thing as the bride may stay there but everyone else needs somewhere to stay.
I know there are some inns who do not appreciate wedding party guests, but this is just as ka-ching as contacting the local funeral home to refer visitors. So if you have not contacted the local venues and churches, send them a rack card or two.

Tons of overflow guests here who get stunned by sticker shock at the actual wedding venue. We're on a lot of 'save the date' wedding sites if GA is telling the truth with the stats. It works out well.

We have a lot of weddings in the area besides at our venue, and if we don't have one that weekend, I try and know about it as quickly as possible. There's not a lot of places to stay in the area, and certainly none for those who want to bring their dogs, so we adjust our rates accordingly as soon as we get wind of a big event on a certain weekend.

My town has about 35 wedding venue's within 10 mins - full range from 2 castles, hotels and now what is becoming the next big thing is "Wild" weddings in the grass outside type of stuff - pretty much at least 1 wedding or as many as 40 on a saturday as some can run more than one at once.

Yes, we are in a wedding area. We have a bridal show here in the next couple months. We gets lots of wedding guests all summer but we shy away from the bride/family/bridal party/ due to this site advice and stories!

I was sharing this for the new innkeepers who come to the forum. Tidbits of marketing advice can be helpful.

Good comment. We work with a couple of inns who do large weddings – early on we decided to host nothing over 40 persons so we maybe do two a year, which is plenty for me – but we do well hosting family associated with events at the larger facilities.
