I've been wanting to post a daily menu, but by the time we put out breakfast, I don't feel like typing it up, plus I wasn't sure how to post it - on the wall? in a frame? laminated? just on paper? several for various tables or just one?
Anyway, I saw a cheese slate shaped like Massachusetts and bought it. Now I can chalk the menu each day and the presentation will be kind of special.
Do you publish a daily menu?

I always had my menu printed out and posted the night before breakfast. That way if there were issues, I would tell them. " be sure to look at the menu if there is something you can't eat." Worked well for me. I had about a weeks worth of menus we followed and printed in advance so it was not a big deal to print out each day. Just used the same ones over and over.

Because you do a buffet I think that works really well. Plus, love those slate state shapes. (Yeah, go ahead, try to say it.)
We used to post the menu the day before and show it to guests on check-in. Kind of a heads up if there were allergies. Then we stopped. Mostly because we were getting tired of breakfast complaints and we needed a bit more time to get the menu together. The number of guests who said, "I can't eat that," come morning dropped 90%.
Some guests got excited thinking about breakfast while others decided they didn't want it and suddenly developed an allergy to it. 6 years later I still have guests who look for the menu in the morning. Cannot untrain them.

Tipsy, bless her pea picking heart, used to print off new ones for the table every morning. Front side was the menu, reverse was the weather and a saying, funny or otherwise.
I was thinking of doing the menu thing again by posting it at each table to highlight the local products we use. It would be on a slate because we usually change up the starter that goes with the basic entrée.
Mini chalk boards or something. Altho I don't think I can write that small. Have to think about it.

When we first bought the house and before we moved in, I had every intention of publishing the weather and menu every morning.
HAHAHAHHAHHAAAAAAAAAA
Yeah, no, that didn't happen. Great idea, but somehow, a bit too much work.

I have one of those white boards with things to do written on it. You think I could find 30 seconds to put the weather on there?
We bought a little weather station instead. It shows the high and low and sun or clouds. Good enough for me.

I used a chalk board that morning ... and little laminated tent cards on the table
BUT I did not have extravagant menus and I tended to make the same seven things so I used them over and over -
If I put them in folks' rooms, they didn't 'see' them. And sometimes the morning of breakfast I'd have a catastrophic failure. Like a fuse blew inside the oven so I couldn't bake the quiches. :)
As for weather, so many people asked that I printed it out that morning and stuck it to the wall near the breakfast room.

I couldn't do it. Sometimes, I'm even finalizing the menu in my head when I go to bed!
But we do have a neat chalk board that sits on an easel with carvings at the top with stuff and such. On the board, I post the future availability of any rooms that aren't booked with the date. Around here, people can change their itinerary at a moment's notice, so sometimes it gives them ideas, especially if they wish they had booked more than what they originally had.

Brilliant idea about availability!

I open the blinds. What they see is what they'll get :)

Ha ha, here too. Not good enough - they want to know if it's going to stay like that all day.

They especially want to know if it's going to change when the blinds tell them it's raining.

Your weather is probably a lot like here - it's raining or it's sunny, guests drive 45 minutes to do whatever and the weather is the exact opposite.
We had a week of rain over the summer. Our weekenders were 3 hours away, on an island, and it was sunny the whole time.

How about one of the "droll Yankee" weather stations? I could hang it outside the breakfast room window.
