One of our long time guests explained why he only comes here on vacation, even tho he's in the area regularly on business - the company he works for, even when our prices are much better than a hotel, thinks 'B&B' equates to posh accommodations above and beyond what the lowly lackey deserves while on the job.
Something to think about when wondering why business travelers opt to stay at cheesy hotels that cost more. It may not be that we don't show up, it may be that we're considered 'too classy' for the likes of the worker bees.
Obviously, this is an in house decision on the part of that particular company. Maybe even one person who had a bad experience or who thinks 'the guys' don't 'deserve' nice accommodations.

It all depends on the "deal" that was worked out and by whom.
Example: my company in my former life offered 90% paid on prescriptions if you went to the pharmacies (think chain) but 80% if you went elsewhere. When BOTH brothers who owned the independent we patronized died within months of each other, I had to go to the chain anyway. THEIR prices were higher than my independent. I went to HR about it since I knew prices from years of paying it. No one cared. It did not matter. So now that the company was paying 90% of the cost, I was paying more than when it was 80%.

It's one of the reasons there is no BNB in my business name - I can be as coy as I like about what I am when necessary. My bigger problem is the "staying in someone's house, shared bathrooms, privacy invaded, out all day" stigma is a lot harder to shake off.

Doesn't make sense if you charge less. Crazy reasoning. :).
Sounds like a cop out to me. If a business uses this as a reason then maybe a letter to them explaining how open our rooms are and our wonderful breakfasts to them with a discount to come and see for yourself.
Or does he ( business traveler) claim more for his room then what it really costs. ?
But some B&Bs are very expensive to stay at for business. But those B&Bs are not after business travelers. They are after holiday rec people.
Lets face it all B&Bs are in different price ranges ,like all hotel and motels are too. Maybe his company does not know that.
Lets face it our guests are for the most part amazed at what they receive from our B&B. Not just dollies and high end.

It could be that this guest is using that to soften the blow to you.

Many companies have a business to business loyalty relationship with certain chains and that is the bottom line.
When we were corporate, DH traveled extensively. At first he was able to stay anywhere he wanted and was able to build up quite a substantial rewards program kitty which he held personally.

Closer to the end of our corporate days the company had made agreements with certain chains and received kickbacks and all reward points instead of the traveling employee.

Tell them to tell their boss you have a "business traveler package" where you treat them like crap so they think they're in a Hampton Inn.
