We have our first guests coming Friday from Alaska! I'm now getting that nervous excitement and want to have everything perfect. So, "heigh ho, heigh ho. It's off to work I go."

Ooooo....I'm feeling that nervous excitement right along with you. One day in the not-to-distant-future, I'll be going through the same thing (I hope!). Can't wait to hear the details. I'm sure it will all go great!

Best of all wishes for you and your BnB. Relax and if they ask how many yrs in business. say " Oh many happy years" just hope they don't ask which business

Good Luck and have fun with it. I still get a little nervous with every arrival, even after eleven years. It's that feeling of wanting to do everything perfectly, and ensure the guests' happiness. It's a good thing, as Martha would say :)

Thank you for your kind wishes and words. I'll let you know what I learned about getting prepared, but most of all I'm excited to meet someone from Alaska. I'm not a traveler and having people come from various places is like bringing the world to me. That is if they like to talk!

As Gillum always says "be as busy as you want to be"

Getting to meet people from all over and hearing their stories continues to be the best part of innkeeping for me.

That is what it is all about.
They will take their shoes of outside your door, if you don't already have a place to put them Figurehead. Have fun!

Enjoy it and try to relax. We can still remember the first guests who stayed with us 10 years ago - a couple from Estes Park, Colorado and they were wonderful.

I bet everyone remembers their first guests and how nervous and excited they were. Best.

I wish I had discovered this forum when I first opened. I see now that I was so clueless. You have the advantage of all this wisdom. You'll be just fine.

Clueless isn't really all that bad. We sometimes do our best work not knowing the possible pitfalls.
Look at Gomez - he's never once read this forum. He goes about his day not knowing the horror stories!

Just pretend it is me and my family coming to visit you! In my childhood you hosted all the social events at your place, in my youth you ran a diner, what are you worried about?

You'll do fine. You were the best host even with all of us bursting your houses seams. Have Mr. Figurehead read up on Alaska in his spare time!

If I were a betting person, I would bet chances are they are not Alaskans, but maybe air force or coast guard who live there currently and are from your area, or vistiting family in your area.
