I want to buy a new waffle iron and offer waffles. Can you make them ahead and keep them warm in the oven?
Do you have a favorite brand? Does anyone do the hotel thing and let guests make their own?

The "mix" they use to make those waffles isn't very good. Not to mention they use flavoured syrup. I haven't had any luck with those waffle makers, they seem to break too easily. The thing is that the best waffles are made with either sour cream or buttermilk, both of which can't sit and wait for guests.
Any companies offer premade individually wrapped belgian waffles in your area? You can warm them in the microwave and then bake a few minutes to make them crisp.

When we started, we used to put out toaster waffles and people loved them. But I want to do homemade. I have the feeling we could leave them in an oven on warm and they would stay crisp.
We offer pancakes and eggs on a steamer tray but that wouldn't work for waffles.

I had two waffle irons - Waring. Had them on a special circuit so the fuse wouldn't blow. Specially wired in the kitchen.
I did not want to have guests making them. Those things get hot.
Once you get them fired up, it only takes a few minutes to do a waffle. And they fill a plate! I never pre-made them. I had the side garnishes of fresh strawberries and or blueberries, and sausage or bacon all set and keeping hot in the oven. Real maple syrup, also blueberry from a local farm. My own whipped cream - so easy to make and have ready in the fridge.
Confession: I was constantly asked my waffle recipe. It was Krusteaz in a box! Why? Because I used to make the batter from scratch. One day I was missing an ingredient, ran over to the general store and all they had was Krusteaz. I got more raves for the mix than my own. SOLD! I would always tell the person asking to come to me later for the recipe, always hoping they'd forget! No one ever remembered.

We make waffle, both regular and Belgian, and they are both a big hit. You can keep them warm, and even crisp them up a bit if you put them on a wire rack in a slightly warm oven for 5-10 minutes as you made another batch.
We once stayed at a place that had a guest make-your-own waffle maker. They used a Bisquick mix with a little added vanilla that was not half bad. We make from scratch using a recipe with soured milk. Let me know if you go down that road and I'll dig up the recipes we use.

Waring Pro was the one that lasted the longest, until it died. Probably 4 years. We have a different brand now but the waffles stick no matter what we do.
You definitely have to flavor up the batter!
You can also make cinnamon roll waffles (using Pillsbury cinnamon rolls) and home fries waffles.

We use Krusteaz also!

We've been using the KitchenAid Belgian waffle maker. I can prepare 2 waffles at one time (8 quarter size portions). For larger seating's this gives me time to make additional batches and guests can still eat them fresh. I use a yeast batter that I prepare the night before and let rise in the refrigerator.
